Capítulo 10: Bittersweet memories 2

"Mother? What's wrong?" Samara said, seeing her mother open the box she had kept on her study table. Her innocent eyes looked at her mothers'.

"It's nothing. Get dressed. You need to get ready." Devi said and Samara nodded.

Samara watched her mother leave the room and she sighed. 'She sounded strange.' She thought to herself.

Her eyes wandered and it caught the box at her study table. Why was her mother interested in the box? As far as she could remember, she had never been interested in any of her little affairs. What's special in the box?

Picking up the box, she placed it beside her bed.

"It won't harm to check later." She mumbled as she went back to her closet to pick up her dress.

She wore the simple gown she had picked and laid on her bed. For some odd reason, her heart felt heavy.

Was it because she was going to run away? Or was it because it would bring shame to her family? Either ways, she wanted to run. She couldn't get married to a stranger. The society would forget about it, forget about her, and they'll all move on with their lives like nothing happened. It's just a matter of time, and everything would be okay.

But the pain of leaving her family still haunted her, although they've never been so good to her, they were still families after all.

What would her brother think? How would he feel? He would definitely hate her, knowing that she had brought shame to the family, but it cannot change the fact that she's running away tonight. She just wanted to be selfish this one time.

She turned around, facing her left. What was she supposed to do? This was her last option and.....

A knock interrupted her thoughts. What is it this time? She thought to herself.

Grumbling some words, she stood up from her bed and went towards the door. She opened the door to find a maid standing there.

Her brows slightly raised in question.

"Your mother has asked you to come for lunch. She says you shouldn't miss it." The maid said and Samara furrowed her brows.

What's her mother up to this time? What's with the fake kindness? Or is she just doing it cause she's about to leave them for good? She thought but internally shook her head.

She nodded to the maid, telling her she would be there shortly.

Samara had arrived the dining hall but neither her father nor her mother were seen on the table. Wouldn't they be having lunch with her too? She asked herself as she took her seat on her usual spot.

Taking the necessary quantity of food, she qserved it on her plate. Not having much appetite, she still ate so the food wouldn't go to waste. Not that anyone would mind.

....

Devi had personally asked the maid to call Samara out for lunch so she could have access into her room. She was glad she didn't lock her room like the rest of them.

Turning around to take extra measures of not being caught, she sighed and quietly stepped into the room.

Her eyes flew to the direction of the study table but she could no longer find the box there.

She gritted her teeth at the thought that Samara had hidden the box. Her expression wasn't all that obvious, where did Sam hide the damn box?!

She went into the closet but she could find no sign of box in there. Was this a joke?!

She flared out of the closet and sat on the bed. She had to see what was in that box! Lightly stomping her feet, it turned its direction and hit a hard object.

She cursed under her breathe, looking at the direction of where the object had hit her, a smile replacing the frown on her face.

Sam won't be coming up to her room anytime soon, but that didn't mean she would sit here all day.

Picking up the box from it's spot, she opened it gently while making sure not to make any noise. A satisfied smile spread on her face, looking at the contents in it.

She had no other business with all other things in it, she just needed to take the photo out, but then she wondered how the photo had gotten inside this box. How did it happen? She had made sure to burn all of photos connecting to her, yet this one was still here.

Since she came in contact with the box, she knew something felt familiar about it but she couldn't pinpoint where.

Not thinking much about how the box got into her room, she shook her head.

Sighing, she crumpled the photo in her hand and muttered words under her breath. "Not while I'm alive. I won't let you get in contact with her. I can't afford to have someone else ruin my life." She murmured.

Closing the box and placing it back in it's original place, she moved forward to step out of the room, but who knew Samara would come sooner than expected.

Hiding the piece at her back, she smiled at her beloved daughter, which she knew wasn't true at all.

"Mother? Is there anything you needed?" Samara asked in worry. Worried that her mother might have sensed something amiss in her room.

"Nothing at all, seems like I can't find my kerchief so I thought to check it here. Any problem?" Devi said, asking the last sentence so Samara wouldn't want to retort back.

She knew the girl, and she had a sharp mouth when she was with her. She couldn't guarantee that she wouldn't slap her if she said something she didn't like, but knowing her engagement was in a few days time, she decided not to do anything and dress her up like the doll she's meant to be.

Samara shook her head immediately, "No mother. I never meant it that way. Sorry if my words offended you." She said looking straight into her mother's eyes. Adding the last sentence so as she wouldn't end up getting slapped.

"Your eyes and words do not match the other though." She said, shaking her head as she clicked her tongue before leaving the room.

"Why do I feel mother's up to something?" She said looking at the empty space her mother had been standing.

She had come up because she had finished eating, she hadn't expected to see her mother in her room which she found suspicious. Her mother never visited her room and the recent visits only made it more suspicious.

Does her mother knows about her escape plan? But if she knew, she would have told it to her father.

Tonight's her night to run away, and she cannot afford to lose the slightest opportunity. She just can't!

Walking towards her bed, she bent to pick up the box that she had wanted to see.

She sat on her fluffy bed, opening both sides of the box. Having done that, she finally opened the box to smile widely.

These were her childhood memories, making her wish she still remained a child. She had been doted on but everything started to change when she grew older.

Not thinking about the bad memories, she took a photo with her and Arijit in it. She beamed at the camera while her brother had that calm expression he always wore on him.

Taking a diary like book, she opened it only for her to chuckle. It was the drawings she had made. They looked utterly stupid now but back then she had been so enthusiastic to show it to her brother.

"Brother! Brother! Look, look what I drew." She said to her brother who held a bored expression in his face.

"What did you draw this time?" A smile on his lips.

"It's a fairy. I want to be a fairy!" The little Sam declared and Arijit chuckled.

"I never knew my sister had interest in fairies." He said and as if into deep consideration, he spoke again. "We can tell father to get you a fairy doll." He said and her eyes twinkled.

"Really?!!" She asked just to be sure and she saw her brother nod with a smile. She ran off to hug him tight.

Remembering the fond memory, she smiled at the thought. Her childhood had been something any child would wish for. She had been so happy and carefree.

Placing the photo aside, she smiled to pick the next item.
