I leave them be and go back to my wife who's now pacing the living room, wringing her hands. When she sees me, she rushes forward, grabbing my hands. "How is he?"
"I don't know yet."
Her shoulders shake and she drops into the armchair, covering her face with her hands that are stained with blood. "It's my fault. He shielded me from them. I should've… They wanted to take me and when he wouldn't let them, they shot him."
"Shh…" I sit on the arm of the chair and pull her against my chest, rocking her. "It's not your fault. He was protecting you." And I owe him big for what he's done. I'll forever be grateful to him.
'So you better pull through, you fucking idiot. Don't you dare die.'
Riri shakes her head, sobbing against me. "He didn't hesitate, Yan. Jax put himself in front of me with guns pointing at him. We can't let him die."
