Capítulo 14: Letter

A loud knocking from the front of the house woke Alex from his deep sleep.

"Damn that Killian… I didn't expect this much of a hangover," he mumbled, as he rubbed his temples seeking relief.

Carefully moving Layla and Vikki from on top of him, he looked for the blanket that seemed to have disappeared in the middle of the night. Noticing it bunched up on the floor, he gently slid off the bed and picked it up, covering the two girls.

Standing tall and stretching his arms he looked back toward the two beautiful women sleeping on his bed as pleasant memories of last night filled his mind, 'How could Layla sleep with Vikki sprawled out like that?'

[Detected host is awake!]

[Daily Quests: updating…]

[Daily Quest: Run 10 miles.]

[Daily Q...]

'Cut it out; I'm not completing any quests today. It's time to get stronger!' The were-rex was tired of depending on daily quests to keep his dino side in check.

The knocking at the door grew louder and reminded him why he got out of bed. Alex quickly ran to the closet and looked for something to use to cover up. He wasn't sure who would be at the door, but he couldn't answer it naked.

He found a loose blue robe in his dad's closet, and put it on. Shuffling toward the door, the knocking didn't decrease, as his headache pounded with every instance.

"...yes?" He questioned a tall-looking stranger wearing a business suit standing outside his door.

"Good morning! I'm Adam Schmidt, from the law office of Cirilli & Schmidt." Adam pulled out a business card and handed it to Alexander.

"You already know I need a lawyer? How?" He stood in his robe, inspecting the business card with an ashen face, unable to find the presence of mind to accept it.

"It has nothing to do with that, I assure you. But, a free piece of legal advice..." The man lifted Alex's hand and placed the card in it and pulled an envelope out of his suit.

"If you ever need an attorney, don't go telling people you need an attorney." he gave this piece of advice as he handed the sealed envelope to the young man.

"Then what's this all about?" Alex furrowed his brows and rubbed his temple with one hand while accepting the parcel with the other.

"The details are in the letter, Mr. Jackson." he casually said while pulling a cigarette out of his coat pocket.

"I suggest you read the documents carefully." He lit his cigarette and left the confused boy on his doorstep.

"If you really do need an attorney, perhaps you should call us sooner rather than later! Until then, Take care." Adam waved a single hand and opened the door to his black luxury sedan parked on the street, not waiting for a response.

'What the Hell?' Alexander ripped open the letter and read the first line:

"Mr. Alexander Jackson, it is my duty to formally notify you of the meeting to discuss the inheritance of the deceased Mr. Isaac McGeswick..."

Alexander stopped reading the note when he realized there was a lot of legal jargon and

appointment times. He didn't think he was in trouble, but he wanted to make sure he wasn't reading the letter wrong.

He slammed the door behind him in a panic and sprinted back to Jimmy's house, still wearing only a loose bathrobe. As the only close adult in his life, there was no one else he could ask for advice.

It was still early in the morning, so not many people had been outside to see Alex in his disturbing outfit. He wouldn't care if they had been, though.

"Come on, Alex, can't you wear some clothes? You've had the house for a single day!" Jimmy was preparing breakfast when the door was thrown open.

"Jimmy, I need your help!" Alex ignored the comment about his clothes and sat in a chair, not waiting for a response. "So, last night, the girls and I were walking home and..."

He told Jimmy about the fight that happened last night, followed by the visit from the lawyer this morning. He wasn't sure if they were related, but he didn't want to leave things to chance.

The elderly man quietly listened to Alex's story as he drank his coffee. When it had finished, he calmly took the letter and read it silently. The expression on his face never changed.

"So, it looks like we have some time to prepare for this note," he said as he looked up from the letter and placed it on his counter. "Let's put it aside for now."

Alex exhaled as a weight lifted from him. Jimmy didn't elaborate on the contents of the letter, but it was enough to know that he didn't have to deal with it right now.

"So, you killed three people last night, and the girls didn't freak out? The cops didn't come?" Jimmy was a bit suspicious about the behavior of the people involved.

He appreciated the young man's friendships. Still, his hate for the two factions wouldn't allow him to trust the girls.

"Vikki called her mom while I cleaned up, but we ended up getting a little distracted. It was an intense situation, and I think the adrenaline got to us." Alexander blushed in embarrassment, he hadn't disclosed the full details of what occurred to Jimmy, but he wouldn't have to guess too hard.

"Layla, on the other hand, seemed so scared; she refused to sleep alone!" Alexander's face grew even redder.

"Your predecessor used to be the same way…" Jimmy sighed as he shook his head. "What did Mrs. Copperland have to say about the situation?"

"Well, she said they would take care of it! I assumed she would get me a lawyer, who I thought showed up this morning, but not even the cops came!"

"You have nothing to worry about. Vampires or not, they are the Copperlands; when they take care of something, they take care of it." Jimmy gritted his teeth as the words came out as if it were painful to admit.

"The important thing now is that someone is likely targeting you." Jimmy changed his attitude and stared directly into the eyes of Alexander. "How else do you think that lawyer found you after you spent a single evening at your childhood home?"

"You can help me get stronger, right?" Alexander planned on asking Jimmy first; if he refused, he would have to depend on the system.

"Of course!" Jimmy opened the refrigerator and removed a crate of eggs. "Eat up and get changed. Your father is the one that trained me to control my ability." A grim smile appeared on the old man's face

"We'll be following his technique."
