Capítulo 4: IV: Clingy Baby

*Slightly Edited

________

"Did you have a nightmare?"

Mei Miao gently rubbed her son's back as she tried to talk to him. After an hour or so, he finally stopped crying and agreed to go out of the room, now they are sitting on the couch faced with the worried Father Fang and Park Hwayeong.

[ "Eomma, what's wrong with him?" ] She shook her head as she heard her eldest daughter question. She really has no idea why he suddenly cried.

"Wife, maybe...why don't we call Lun Ming? He mig—"

"Dad, do you still work at Quizhou Real Estate?"

Fang Hu's words were cut off by a sudden question from Fang Muiren. His son still has his head down and his bulging puffy eyes that looked cute.

"Hmm? Yes. Why do you ask? Are you okay? Did you have a nightmare?"

[ "Dongsaeng, what's wrong?" ]

Fang Muiren can't help but let out a small smile by hearing those worried words. His father and elder sister's voice... it's been a long time since he last heard it.

He really doesn't mind being stuck in this illusion, it feels so realistic that even if he has a chance of breaking out, he won't

[ "Noona, are you still together with that jerk, Liam?" ]

His older sister, Park Hwayeong, is his mother's child from her first marriage. She was 5 years older than him and obviously half Korean. In his last life, his sister wasn't with them when the apocalypse started because a week before it she flew to District 1 to catch her fiancè.

Apparently, he was cheating on her and already married to his childhood sweetheart. They fought a lot especially when it comes to that jerk.

"[Don't call him that.] He's still older than you, you should call him big brother instead."

Park Hwayeong sighed as she walked and placed herself beside Fang Muiren, hitting his shoulder lightly (?). She really doesn't have any idea why the two don't get along, their personalities are really similar to each other.

They're both sweet but while Liam is sometimes annoying her brother is really annoying.

"Hmph. What brother. Apocalypse can happen but I will not call him that. Don't trust that jerk that much and just how long do you two know each other? 3 years? 2? Don't trust him, better yet, break up with him."

The three people let out an exasperated sigh. Mother Miao waved her hands and shook Fang Muiren's right arm.

"Answer me. Answer me. What's wrong? Did you ha—

"Mom, can you sing?"

"W-what? Sing? Why so sudd— no! answer me. What's wrong with you?"

His mother and the two looked at him confusedly. Why does he keep saying things that have no connection to his crying?

"Tell me...Mom wants to know so, I could help you, hm—"

"Honey, let him. He'll tell us in time, okay? Come. let's just eat." Father Fang cut Mother Miao's words, causing irritation and confusion to surface on her clear face.

He just shook his head and pulled her to the dining area, leaning to whisper,

"Maybe he's just embarrassed...give your son some pride, okay? Stop being nosy."

"What nosy? I'm his mom, I carry him for nin—"

"Okay, okay. Let's eat, let's eat. Hwayeong helps your brother, let's eat." Hwayeong nodded and helped her brother who looks dazed.

She shook her head and berated him slightly.

"What's wrong with you? you look so out of yourself!"

"Sister, break up with that jerk, right now."

[ "Yah! Stop now! Stupid brother...walk faster!" ]

Fang Muiren almost let out a couple of curse words when Park Hwayeong drags him roughly completely forgetting that he can't see and hitting every sharp edge and frame they pass by.

The breakfast ended harmoniously without his parents asking about why he cried earlier. It's not that he's ashamed of crying or anything but he's really overwhelmed and too happy to focus on that.

He just wants to stick like glue to his parents and make sure they never leave his 'sight'.

That he did.

"What's wrong with you? Do you want anything? Why do you keep following me? Xiao Mu what's wrong?"

His target number one is his mom. He decided that since he can't follow the two of them separately he'll just focus on one right now, which is his mom.

He shook his head, then reached out for the hem of her shirt. He missed it a few times before successfully gripping it.

"Ha... what's wrong? are you gonna drink milk from me?"

Fang Muiren didn't answer. Mei Miao sighed as he stayed silent. Rolling her eyes as she continues to wash the dishes.

"Mom...you won't leave me, right? You should always prioritize yourself, okay?"

Tugging her shirt lightly, he let out some reminders. Reminding her to not always look after him, to eat always, to not worry about him too much...

Mother Miao felt his lips tugging upwards, She doesn't know what's gotten into her boy's head but it feels sweet...

"Okay, okay. Now could you let me go? I still need to take a shower."

Fang Muiren shook his head. Stubbornly gripping his mother's shirt. He needs to always be with her, what if she disappears?

What if he wakes up suddenly from this stupid illusion? He'd rather die than leave this illusion. He long for this...he always imagines what it would be like if they are still alive...

Now, they're here. Warm, full of life, alive... Illusion or not, dream or nightmare, whatever's happening to him right, he's willing to have this whatever price he needs to pay.

Life? sure. Soul, why not? money? magic? mana? anything. Just let him stay here.

"What?! I'm gonna shower!"

Letting out a beaming smile, he tried to face his mother. Well, barely. Mother Miao cup his face and faced it towards her, it's not always that she can see her son smile that makes his eyes crinkle.

"Mom, I love you."

The day ended with Fang Muiren getting tucked by his parent to bed. They kiss him good night and arrange for him to be comfortable as per his request at dinner.

Albeit, they find it a little bit weird because of his childish request, they still did it happily as it's not every day that their children are clingy.

Letting out a happy sigh, he remains awake. He's afraid that when he sleeps, everything will disappear like a fleeting dream in the middle of the apocalypse.

For the longest time, Muiren sits up and puts his hand together. Wishing silently to the very powerful one who created this world that this world is real—no, if he's in a mental manipulation or illusion don't ever, ever, wake him up.

Let him be delusional by his own fantasy. He got nothing to live out there. He's old. Alone. and Blind. His death won't affect the apocalypse, for those that he will leave... it's not the first time they saw death anyway.

Selfish? yes, it's selfish. But so what? Let him be delusional. Let him be selfish! Just...even if he has to kill people just to make sure that his little world stays safe.

Finishing his selfish prayer, he slid back to his comfortable bed.

Facing toward the ceiling he slowly closed his eyes.

"Goodnight, Mom. Night Dad. Night, Noona."
