Early Morning next day:

Ethan and Max reached their classroom on time, as there were 200 students selected for first year, class was divided in 5 sections with 40 students in each classroom, Ethan was in Section B (wait isn't it also the same number of his hostel), There were total 5 Lectures by 5 professors in first semester and total 10 subjects in whole one year. Subjects were as follows,

Sem-1

1. Status and Effect on Pokemon- Professor Wood

2. Pokemon Types- Professor Green

4. Importance of Diet and Nutrients on Pokemon- Professor June

Students who are ranked in top 50% of the average marks obtained from both semesters are directly promoted to second year and those who couldn't qualify get another chance to give exam next year or choose different stream to study as offered by University.

First lecture today was on subject Status and its effect on pokemon by Professor Wood. Ethan who knew little about status and its effect on pokemon from the books he got from Mulberry Public library was excited to learn more.

After around 10 minutes, a man in his fifties entered classroom with a thick book in hand, it was Professor Wood who has worked as assistant of Professor Samuel Oak for many years and has his own research laboratory in Gardenia Town. Professor wood had white messy hairs and he was clean shaved and was wearing Glasses.

All students stood up and greeted Professor Wood and after professor gave affirmation everyone sat down on their seats.

"Good Morning students and welcome to Pokemon University, I know many of you are excited to learn everything we have here and we all professors here are more delighted to share everything we know with you all." Said Professor Wood with a smile on his face.

After a brief pause Professor looked around in class and finally he looked towards Ethan and Max who were sitting at last bench, (Last Benchers 😈), "Lets congratulate this years First ranker Mr. Ethan Smith and Mr. Max Maple." Professor said, Ethan and Max stood up nervously and slightly bowed as a thanks to professor and their classmates.

"Now, I would like to tell you that I am your class teacher for this year, so I am responsible to register pokemon if you have any prior to admission on your name. So I would like to request you all to meet me after class in Teacher's Area." Said Professor Wood and than opened a page from the thick book he brought along with him.

"As you all may be familiar with Status and its effect a little from your studies in Pokemon School, here I would like to enlighten you in brief about what are Status and how they work in real battle." Said Professor and than turned towards big black board and wrote Poison and Burn in big bold letters.

Than he again turned around towards class and said, "Today I will teach you about most commonly seen status, Poisoning and Burn Effect. Please note down any points if you find important and ask if you didn't understand anything after I finish explaining."

All students got ready with pen and writing book and had full attention towards what professor was saying.

"First lets start with Poison Status, its most common status and can be caused by a poison type pokemon but not limited to poison type pokemon. Any pokemon who knows moves like Toxic or Poison Powder can inflict this status. But effect of status caused by a poison type pokemon over status caused by non-poison type is different. As well as level difference of pokemon and mastery of move of the user is also an important factor. For example,

An Intermediate level Grimer using Toxic on a Pseudo King level Pokemon won't have any effect unless its Move is on Master Level. But if same Grimer used Toxic on Beginner or Rookie level pokemon then it can cause big harm to that pokemon, but here also move mastery can do additional effect, if Grimer's Toxic move is at Beginner Level it will do more harm on Rookie Pokemon but less on a beginner (Still effect will be there), but if same move is on Intermediate or Elite level than effect can have big change and if its at Master level than effect will be dangerous on any pokemon whether its level is above Grimer or Below.

The status causes less damage if the move even if it is at Master Level was used by a Non-Poison Pokemon though similar effect as a poison type will do when its move is on expert level.

But a beginner level poison attack by Non-Poison type pokemon have very less effect on higher level pokemon and almost zero if level difference is two. It also doesn't have much effect on pokemon with lower level but can cause a good amount of damage if pokemon is two levels below the user." Professor Explained the effect of poison status inflicted by a poison type pokemon and non poison type pokemon and also he gave brief about how a pokemon's attack mastery affects the effect of status as well.

Move Mastery have these levels:

1. Beginner

2. Intermediate

3. Elite

4. Master

Pokemon with different potential take different time in gaining expertise over certain moves, Pokemon can have potential as follows,

1. Normal

2. Bronze

3. Silver

4. Gold

5. Diamond

A diamond potential pokemon can learn a move from beginner level to Elite level in 4 Weeks and the durations doubles from previous pokemon as potential decreases. So a normal potential pokemon will take around 64 Weeks to upgrade move from Beginner Level to Elite Level. To reach Master Level a Diamond Potential Pokemon takes around 4 Months (Duration can be decreased depending on how often move is used during battles).

Level of Pokemon are Categorized as follows,

1. Baby Pokemon- Newly Born Pokemon up to duration of 1 Month.

2. Rookie Pokemon- Pokemon 1 Month old and trainable.

3. Beginner Level Pokemon- Pokemon with atleast one Move at Intermediate level

4. Intermediate Level- Level has three parts Early, Mid and Peak, depending upon expertise on Moves. Pokemon with atleast 3 Moves at Intermediate level or one move at Elite level can be considered at Early Intermediate. If 2 Moves at Elite Level Mid Intermediate and 2 Moves at Elite Level with 3 other moves at Intermediate Level can be considered as Peak Intermediate Level.

5. Elite Level Pokemon- (a) Early- 3 Moves at Elite Level and 3 at Intermediate Level. (b) Mid- 4 Moves at elite Level. (c) Peak- atleast 1 Move at Master Level.

6. Pseudo King- (a) Early- 2 Moves at Master Level or 1 at Master with 5 at Elite Level (b) Mid- 2 Moves with Master Level and 5 at Elite Level. (c) Peak- atleast 3 Moves at Master Level.

7. King- (a) Initial- 5 Moves at Master level and 5 Moves at Elite Level. (b) Peak- 7 Moves at Master Level.

8. Champion- Mastery in all moves or minimum 10 Moves.

Pokemons with only one moves like Ditto are exception for above category and can be placed in category as per their mastery of Move but their moves are hard to upgrade in real world and take longer than other pokemon who has big move set.

Ethan was aware about his Scyther, Because a pokemon's potential and Move Mastery can be checked with Complete Pokedex which is received after you complete graduation from University or are a Gym Leader or exceptional trainer.

Details of Scyther are as follows,

Species- Scyther

Type- Bug/Flying

Gender- Male

Ability: Technician

Potential- Gold

Moves- Leer (I), Fury Cutter (E), Quick Attack (I), Wing attack, Double Team (I), Focus Energy, Sword Dance (TM), X-Scissor(TM).

Egg Moves- Night Slash, Feint, Reversal

Ethan's Scyther was at Early Intermediate Level but can reach Mid or Peak Intermediate level within a year time easily if trained well.

Professor Wood's lecture was over when he finished explaining about Burn Status which had same effect as Poison with addition to lowering attack and special attack stat of inflicted pokemon. After that he cleared doubt of few students and left as next lecture of Professor Oak was going to start.

Chapter Ends.
