(In a Hospital, Somewhere)
A young man ,in his twenties, is seen lying down on a hospital bed. His complexion is unhealthily pale with a look in his eyes ,that people of that age should not have, eyes devoid of hope and life. His condition can be summed up by, 'Being One foot in the grave'. This young man is Bu Cai.
Bu Cai has had a relatively miserable life. As an orphan, he was given some support from the government and went to school like a normal child, until the age of eighteen, when he was left to enter in harsh society, were there was no one to support him, financially or physiologically.
During school, he would perform incredibly well, his grades were always remarkable and he was steadily on track to get a much desired scholarship into university, where he could then build up qualifications then strive for good life with, a stable and well paying job.
Alas, his hard work was for naught, as a second generation rich kid, snagged that shit off him, like stealing a candy from a baby, simply due to one reason, connections. Truly a touching example of, 'Diligence will always be rewarded'.
Due to Bu Cai having no connections of his own, he couldn't do anything (except curse the fucker's entire family over the course a year, results remain ambiguous, but he tried) and therefore was left with no other choice but to give up on the dreams of university and start working part time to sustain himself... well that didn't work for him either, as every time he tried to get a job, for some reason or another, he was fired!
For example, when he got his first job, at stocking the shelf in a local supermarket, he dropped a box, containing a jars of sausages, and the remnant juices ended up splashing on a vegan, said individual then proceeded to complain to the manager how her 'rights' had brutally violated and demanded Bu Cai to be fired for such misdemeanor, after a while of back and forth arguing, the manager was sick of her bullshit and just told Bu Cai to leave even though this was barely a reason to do so.
After he tried to fight for his case, the manager said that regardless, there was camera evidence and it was Bu Cai's fault and that he had to deal with the consequences no matter how minor of a mistake it was. It was complete nonsense but he brushed it off as a one off, and this marked the end of his first job experience...
Ridiculous incidents like this repeated, until he reached his 64th job, where after being fired like usual, he had been on his way back to his shitty cramped apartment, that had rent overdue and feeling depressed as fuck.
The only reason he had decided to strive for this long and planned to keep going on was due to the fact that he wanted to get back at the shitty world that had been against him since the day of his birth, and the fact that his favourite Xianxia series uploads daily, but then, things got worse.
He felt like shit, so went for a check-up and he was informed to have a horrifying terminal disease, that eats away at your health over time and unsurprisingly, this had terribly high prices for methods of prolonging the inevitable, definitely not like he was already broke as fuck.
From this he could conclude earth had enough of his stubbornness and decided end him for good.
And now we have reached to the current day, although he had no evidence, he was quite sure he'd die soon, call it a gut instinct (though he was sure that shit stopped functioning about a week ago).
Although he had multiple mental breakdowns over the years, this had been by far the worst, the agony of knowing that this illness is slowly gnawing away at the only thing that had not been taken from him, his life, now that truly put the nail in the coffin.
During his time in this hospital room which felt more like a cell, no one had visited him.
Friends? He had some during his time in school and he felt that they were truly people who he could open up to and trust, but after they had found out he had no future they cut all contact without second thought.
Parents? He had long given up on fantasies of them coming back for him at all, as it was simply unrealistic.
Girlfriend? The closest he was to the opposite gender was through the screen of his barely-functioning shitphone, which through the small screen he could watch some quality porn. This was not due to the fact that he had some particular defect and was in fact relatively handsome, but he didn't really have the time for it and girls also seemed to avoid him for seemingly no reason, possibly due to the stench of immense poverty, or his SSS-Rated bad luck was being super effective, he has no clue.
So finally, the time has come.
He feels his eyes get heavier and his heart rate decreasing.
As death is coming, he can't help but reminisce over the only enjoyable thing in his life, Webnovels, more specifically, Xianxia novels.
You know?, The ones with the protagonist having to overcome numerous hardships by the their sheer will and plot arm- *cough* ingenious planning! And them marking their names on the annals of time by reaching new heights never seen before on the path of the dao and slaughteri- *cough* visiting multiple clans with arrogant younger generations to assert dominance!
All this meanwhile acquiring a grand harem of heaven-destroying beauties along the way?
If such a thing couldn't make Bu Cai's blood boil, he wouldn't be a man.
And so, he read the thousands and thousands of chapters of multiple Xianxia such as, 'Emperor's Damnation', 'With The Gods', and 'Preach Through The Heavens'...
Realisation Dawns on Bu Cai in his last moments. He hasn't been able to catch up to the latest chapter of 'The Reincarnation Of The The Heavenly Sovereign Emperor Dragon God That Will Reach The Apex This Time'! Bu Cai knew that this regret would stay with him in his eternal slumber and could only lament at how his bad luck will not even leave him to die peacefully. :'(
And so he dies with eternal regret, or does he?
...
To be honest, this chapter is not overly important, but decided to add it in just to introduce Bu Cai's character a bit and talk about his experiences in his first life.
I acknowledge the fact that Bu Cai having his scholarship snatched by a rich young master is not very realistic and that he probably had other options other than going straight to work, but either way his immensly bad luck would have eventually affected him either way so i didn't feel that it would change the story that much if he went the university or not as i wasnt planning on him having any major attachments to this world and i also feel that him being able to experience real life and society is better than doing calculations and schoolwork.
Again, this is my first story and i will make mistakes and my writing will be mediocre but this is honestly just for some fun.
Thanks
