Capítulo 21: Mia

Eventually, Mia's loud laughter simmered down, but it didn't completely end.

Emily had directed her attention back to butchering, her angry slices into the meat fully indicative of her current mental state. But Mia still ended up giggling to herself whenever she thought back to the situation, much to the chagrin of Emily.

"But I do have a reason…" She grumbled, feeling that the whole situation was completely unfair.

"Hahahaha!" Mia snickered in response. She was always in an upbeat mood, being spontaneous with her joy. It was contagious and Yeon honestly admired that aspect of hers. Not everyone could be so pleasant to be around.

He just hoped that her bubbly personality wouldn't change when she entered the Sapling Sword Sect. He felt that unless the recruitment standards suddenly got higher, they wouldn't have much difficulty passing the trials.

But there was always the slight chance that they could fail.

The examiner could say something vague and philosophical like 'Fate and good fortune are essential in one's journey in cultivation'. Then, using that as justification add a nonsensical trial that disqualified competent aspiring disciples just because of their 'bad luck'.

In these examples, if the trials were being done by a smaller sect, it could just be a ruse for the examiner to accept bribes to fail and accept disciples by their own discretion.

Yeon just hoped that the Sapling Sword Sect, which was a branch sect of a large and prestigious Central Sect, wouldn't devolve into such a shameless display of corruption. But the possibility was always there.

Mia's incessant giggling that echoed every now and again was eventually too much for Emily to handle and she sent her away on an errand.

"Mia, don't be idle. Yeon is going to cook for us and I'm handling the meat. Go collect so firewood," She snapped coldly.

"Yes Ma'am!" She saluted Emily. Emily's voice and tone were frosty but Mia knew that her friend wasn't really angry.

"Yeon~" Mia tugged on Yeon's sleeves cutely. She was already completely comfortable with Yeon and her trust in him made Yeon's heart warm up. Although they had only known each other for a short while, Mia felt that Yeon was trustworthy.

She was usually childish in her behaviour, but like some children, she also had an eerily good sense of intuition. She saw Yeon as someone who would return kindness with kindness and evil with an even greater evil.

He turned a bit scary when he was fighting, his eyes turning vacant yet excited. It gave her shivers just thinking about it. But there were many people who changed during combat and so far, Yeon had shown them only goodwill. She decided to listen to her sixth sense and trust Yeon.

"You heard the boss. Let's go collect firewood," She shifted the blame onto Emily, and naturally extended the obligation to include Yeon as well.

Yeon liked Mia quite a lot and felt that it wouldn't be troublesome to accompany her.

"Mia! Leave Yeon alone," Emily reprimanded.

And so, this time around, instead of ignoring Mia like usual, he shot Emily a sweet smile, his ruby eyes shining beautifully under the moonlight. He then proceeded to ignore her and turned to face Mia:

"Yes, let's go, Mia. She seems to be grumpy. Let's run away and come back when she's in a better mood," He commented in a tongue-in-cheek manner.

Emily opened her mouth slightly in shock. She had never expected Yeon to take Mia's side like this when she was being so cheeky, and the words that she was about to speak were now stuck in her throat.

She watched as the two departed into the forest to gather some dry wood for a fire. She sighed in defeat.

"Don't stray too far. It's dark and you could always encounter a magical beast if you're not careful," Emily shouted at their disappearing figures.

"Thanks Mum!" Mia shouted back.

"Tsk. My worries are wasted on her." She grumbled while smiling faintly. She was happy that Yeon didn't mind Mia and her energetic but also slightly intrusive behaviour. Mia was someone who couldn't properly assess personal boundaries and sometimes her innocent intentions annoyed others.

Mia had been bullied for her quirkiness when she was younger, and it was Emily who had defended her from her bullies and accepted her. It was through this dynamic that they grew closer together as friends and why Mia was always following behind Emily.

Mia, as someone who had the potential to be a cultivator, was naturally stronger than all her bullies. But she was too kind and too frightened to properly fight back.

Her bullying was mostly verbal and through exclusion rather than outright physical abuse. The children of that town were aware that Mia was stronger than them so they didn't push their luck.

They were jealous that the weird girl was stronger than them and annoyed that she would beat them whenever they played games together.

Her superior physical specs meant that she would always come out on top with her speed and coordination. She was also surprisingly clever meaning that she would always solve riddles and puzzles first.

Mia didn't understand that her outstanding talents were a source of jealousy to others. She was simply excited and happy that she was being included in their games. She loved playing with them and so always tried her best in that excitement.

The cause of her bullying was childish, but to the young Mia, their cruel words and isolating behaviour was painful. It was the head-strong and valiant Emily who had broken through to make her childhood as pleasant as it was.

Mia and Yeon walked deeper into the mountain. They were far enough that their casual chatter couldn't be heard by Emily, but close enough that they could hear each other if they shouted.

Mia spoke out to Yeon, intentions as obvious as ever.

"So Yeon, what do you think of my Emi," She asked him, poking him with her elbow while smirking. She was the spitting image of a guy friend when they found out their best mate had just lost his virginity, the 'So, how was it?' kind of atmosphere.

"I haven't known her long enough to make a proper judgement, but from what I've seen, she's a kind and responsible woman who is as skilled as she is graceful," He replied truthfully.

He didn't feel the need to lie.

The Emily-Mia duo were simple and kind people. He enjoyed their energy and felt incredibly relaxed when he was with them. They mostly spoke between themselves while including Yeon into their petty squabbles, but Yeon didn't feel left out at all.

Rather than a third-wheel, he felt like he was a guest in a podcast run by the two, their skits and characters acting to entertain him as the invitee.

Mia nodded approvingly, running through Yeon's comments in her mind, muttering and repeating it to herself:

"Kind…responsible… graceful.."

Yeon, in the meanwhile, was bending over to pick up the driest branches he could find. A job that Mia had either no plans on completing or had already forgotten about, her mind distracted by their discussion.

"You're exactly right. Emi is a great girl. A wonderful girl, the best in fact!" Her praise kept increasing in scale, going from a simple description to an emphatic superlative.

"She was the most beautiful girl where we lived. Everyone was envious of her charm and talent, and she received countless marriage proposals every day!" She gushed on.

Her cheerful eyes were full of gentle care and love, her passion for her friend overflowing. Yeon just watched on with a small smile as he did her job for her.

"And although everyone knows her as the cool beauty, which she is as well, but she's actually the cutest as well! Did you know that she bites her lower lip whenever she's troubled? Like when you ask her a difficult question or she's stressed about something."

"I didn't. She's wearing a veil…" Yeon replied. He spoke in between her constant rambling, allowing her to comfortably continue her babble.

"Oh, that's right… That's a shame for you then!" She slapped Yeon across the back, making him spill some of the sticks that were in his arm.

'I should put them into my spatial ring…'

"Oops, sorry about that."

Mia picked up the dropped twigs before Yeon could properly react and placed them back into his arms and continued with what she was saying as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

'She's completely forgotten about the firewood… Oh well, she's cute so I'll forgive her. I'm also getting to know more about Emily which is nice.'

"She also has a habit of twirling her long hair around her fingers when she's thinking. Her wistful expression as she stares out the window, a cup of tea next to her while she plays with her soft hair. She's something straight out a picture."

"Mhmm, I can imagine."

"And she's bad with spices. Isn't that adorable? But she'll never admit it! If you give her spicy food, then she'll eat it without complaint but her face flushes slightly and she sweats. Heheh, once there wasn't any tea nearby and the food was too hot for her. Her panicked expression as she realized was so funny and charming, I wish I could show you…"

Mia continued on, she described her flaws, her strengths, her characteristics that she found endearing, and the parts about her that no one else noticed.

Yeon observed her from the side.

Her golden eyes were like the sun itself in the dark night as it shined with affection. She was looking ahead but her eyes were unfocused as she pictured the girl she was describing. Her usually cheerful face was instead melted into a mellow smile, her hands gesticulating to better express herself.

Her small dainty hands would point up and down, sometimes shooting out to the sides as if she were about to hug someone. It was as if the overflowing emotions she couldn't quite convey with words were instead being told by her body

She had long legs despite her short height and her succulent white thighs and ass gave her an alluring figure to rival any model. Her steps had an extra bounce to them, and it looked like she was about to start skipping at any second, but she contained her energy and matched Yeon's pace.

Words flowed out of her like a dam had been burst, a flowing rapid of descriptions and praise. She kept pouring out her feelings since she finally had someone who would listen, someone who she could vent to.

A friend.

PENSAMENTOS DOS CRIADORES

While I was leering at Mia's thighs I noticed that I had 4 more new friends.

5 syllable poem:

7 stones and me.

Mia's thighs go ree.

Freedom is a lie.

Lustful tears I cry.

I might kill my friends to summon something more enjoyable. A danger noodle seems to be all the rage right now. But I don't have anything to feed it.

...I don't have anything to eat either? How am I even alive?
