Capítulo 50: Chapter 50: An Understanding

I blinked furiously, banishing the emotions threatening to seep out. My chest felt crowded, all sorts of emotions rustling through me. I didn’t know what to say or how to respond.

“I’m sorry,” Resmer said, the apology sounding odd coming from his lips.

I watched him silently, struggling to believe that this was happening. After all this time, he was finally apologizing.

A part of me had yearned for this but I was still angry. He was my father and he had abandoned me. Not only had he abandoned me, he was my enemy. I couldn’t see him as anything else.

“I want to leave,” I said, my voice cracking as I uttered the words.

“I won’t keep you prisoner,” he said, a gleam under his eye sparkling from the tear that had escaped.

He stepped forward, inching closer to me. I tensed, prepared for anything. He reached into his pocket, pulling out a key before inserting it in the slots on my chains. He unlocked my hands and feet, stepping back so I could stand.
