We were on the floor when I came back, both me and the Priestess.

She was panting hard, a bead of sweat on her brow as I stared at her, my image no doubt mirroring hers. There was a moment, just a moment, where I could have sworn that her eyes changed color, the pupil taking up the entire expanse of her eyes as she stared at me. I saw my image reflecting in them, before they turned smaller again, back to normal.

There was a look on her face that told me she saw everything.

“Do you know how demon hunters came to be pristinely ungifted?” She panted out. “Do you know how?” She looked at Michael when she asked the question for the second time.

“We were born with it,” he told her, and she laughed in his face.
