“What happened?” I found Rhett and Hayden after coming back to the room. The two of them seemed relatively unphased in comparison to my entire demeanor. I didn’t know if I could think of a situation where they would have seen or overheard something as concerning as what Michael and I did not only in that underground lab, but with what Kaveh had told us, either.

Michael had let me go back alone, opting to go and figure some things out for himself. I, myself, was done for the day. Finished with finding out horrifying secrets and trying to unfold the truth of a city I didn’t even belong to. When Michael had told me about the citadel, an underground lab experimenting on people who were also subsequently trapped inside of paintings, and having what Kaveh had told us still in my mind, was not what I had expected when I agreed to come here.
