"When did you get here?" My mother's tears continued flowing, but she smiled so brightly that I didn't think she was upset that I was there. "You should've called us!"
"But then this wouldn't be a surprise." If I'd called and told my mother I was coming, she would've prepared a banquet for all the pack, and I wasn't ready for something like that. I was still getting used to how I looked now, and the last thing I needed was to have everyone silently talk about it. "What kind of son would I be if I didn't give you a good story?"
"Well, you definitely surprised me," She wiped her eyes, looking at my face. Her smile dropped when she saw the scars up close. She'd already seen them, but it was different in person. Her hand came up, and she carefully touched the deepest one. "Always my fierce pup."
