She walked up to Gem quietly and said, "Mother Atkinson is asleep, don't disturb her."

"Where have you been?"

"I came straight from the police station to the hospital, only to realize I'd left the chicken soup behind. So I rushed back to Golden Jade Hall to get it."

Gem's lips curved into a slight smile, pulled her onto his lap, and said, "You've had a hard time."

She wrapped her arms around his neck and replied, "It wasn't bad. Mother Atkinson actually drank the chicken soup I brought—and the whole bowl, at that, huh huh..."

No matter how much Mother Atkinson disliked Forsythia, she still cared somewhat for the bit of maternal affection between him and his mother. Seeing her smile so genuinely, he couldn't help but laugh along with her 'huh huh.'
