Capítulo 17: Chapter 17

They went a long way but to no avail. Adela got despaired.

"Enough!" she yelled suddenly. "We are going back. I start to believe that probably all the talking about the witch were just rumors after all."

"Adela, are you sure about this? We make all this way just to go back?" Agnes asked her.

"Yes, I am sure, Agnes. I think is for the best."

"As you wish. Let's go back before the darkness of the night catch up us."

"Come on, my friend, let's go home," Adela said to her horse's ear, stroking his neck.

The company started on the way back home.

"Wait, Adela!" Adela heard a soft voice behind her. She turned her head in surprise and saw a woman floating in smoke. She had shiny red hair and bright green eyes. "Don't give up now. You are almost on the end of your journey. Move on. Come. You are so close to me. I'm waiting for you. And don't worry. You will return home on time, safe and sound." Adela was looking at and listening to her as if she was hypnotized.

"What about me? Will I not return home safe and sound?" Agnes said with a scared look.

The vision of the red-haired woman laughed softly. "Of course and you will Agnes. Both of you."

"That is great news!" Agnes said, thankful.

The woman spoke again. "I am waiting for you. Don't be late….»

The vision disappeared, and the smoke vanished instantly. As if it never existed.

"A glow will appears soon. When you see it follow it. It will lead you to me." The witch's voice was heard clear and crystal, like the babbling crystal flowing water of a creek.

When the voice fell silent, the forest enveloped again in its familiar sounds. The birds began to chirp again, and the insects started making their 'biz' sounds. Everything around found its normal rhythm to life again.

"Did you hear that, Agnes?" Adela asked, still puzzled by what she had just experienced. "Did you see everything that just happened or did I imagine it?"

"No, it wasn't a figment of your imagination, Adela. I saw it too. In all its glory!" Agnes replied, as stunned as Adela.

"She called us by our names," said Adela. Her voice was trembling; Almost a whisper. It didn't fit in her mind. "How does she know our names? It's that possible?"

"I think it is possible if she is a real witch!" Agnes replied, emphasizing the "real" word, and gave her an intense glance.

Adela swallowed hard, feeling a sting of fear, but also, a wild joy flooded her at the prospect of finding what she was looking for!

Her eyes reflected a wild lightning bolt, and confidence nestled in her heart now.

"So, let's go!" Adela said and softly goaded her horse with her feet to move on, following the West.

A little while later, a glow began to fade in the background.

The girls looked at each other. "This must be the glow the witch told us about," said Adela.

The closer they got, the glow was becoming more and more bright. The peculiar was the two girls could look at it straight without feeling any discomfort in their eyes.

They followed it with their eyes stuck on that glow. Slowly it began to take the form of a dome. When they reached that fully illuminated dome, the girls stopped short and looked at each other confused. Nothing was visible in this dome. It seemed empty to their eyes.

"Leave the horses and get into the dome," they heard the same crystal voice say to them again.

They did as the voice told them and walked in.

The witch was there, in front of them, enveloped in light. But not in the sunlight. In the night's light.

A light that the night gains when the moon is full. In this beautiful silver-blue color of the night with a full moon.

The place around her was full of fabrics in all shades of red. Diligently sloppily thrown everywhere and some lighted candles scattered in the space gave the feeling of a mystical ritual.

The witch was sitting behind a table, also covered with fabric. In front of the witch, a crystal ball hovered and, from time to time, emitted sparkles like small thunderbolts. The witch was staring at the two girls with her big, bright, green eyes.

Despite the eerie atmosphere, the girls didn't feel afraid. On the contrary, they felt safe and secure. There was nowhere to sit, and so they remained stood up.

"Welcome, Adela and Agnes!"

The girls nodded and smiled.

"I already know that you are the one who needs me, Adela. Agnes just followed you. She is a great friend!"

"Yes, she is." Adela agreed with a smile.

The witch brought her hands over the crystal ball, but without touching it. The crystal ball began to spin with tremendous speed, and sparks came out of it, illuminating the whole place. When it stopped spinning, Adela saw Stefan reflected in it.

"Aaaa…" her mouth opened wide. "This is…"

"Stefan," the witch said. "He is the reason for coming here today. Am I right?"

Adela felt a little bit awkward, knowing that the witch knew everything before she could tell her anything. "Yes…" it was the only thing she could say.

"And what is that you ask for? Say it. I want to hear it from your lips."

Adela looked deep into the witch's eyes and realized that she already knew what she wanted, but apparently, she wanted to hear it from her.

"I need… a magic Potion," Adela answered throatily.

The witch continued looking at her in the eyes intensively, and Adela, pulled in by the witch's mesmerizing gaze, couldn't take her eyes off hers.

Agnes stood a little further away, uninvolved. She was watching without making a fuss.

"What do you want this magic potion to do?" the witch continued the questions without losing eyesight with Adela.

"I want it to the one who will drink it to fall in love with the first person he sees in front of him."

"And you will be the first person he will see?"

"Yes."

"Okay then. Everything you said you want can be done. But remember, when Stefan drinks the filter, his gaze should be glued on yours for a while. Until the color of his eyes changes for just a moment before they return to their normal color".

"Okay, I will do that."

"There is also something else that you should know. Very important!"

Fear for a moment covered Adela's eyes, but she didn't give up. "And what is this?"

"There is no antidote to the filter. Whatever happens cannot be solved. The effect of the potion lasts forever. So use it wisely."

Adela seemed to be upset. Was that what she really wanted? It was something definite and irreversible. She thought about it for a moment and decided 'yes.' That's what she wanted.

She saw the witch smiling lightly and wondered if she could read the thoughts as well.

"The answer is yes," she heard the witch answering.

Adela's eyes widened. She didn't know what to say. She was afraid that the witch would get angry with her and chase her away without giving her the potion.

But the witch didn't show such a thing, and Adela was relieved.

"Is there a question you would like to ask me about the potion?" the witch continued in the same gentle tone.

"Yes."

"You can make it. I hear you."

"Can it be mixed with others kind of drinks?"

"Yes. It is colorless and tasteless. You can pour it even into glass of water."

"The person who drinks it have to empty the glass for the potion to work?"

"No. One sip is enough."

"Is there a set dosage?"

"No. You will have the same result no matter how much you use. That's why I would advise you not to waste it unnecessarily."

"I assured you that I will follow your advice."

"Very well. Is there anything else you would like to ask? You will not have another chance ".

Adela thought for a while and answered: "No."

"Very well then, take a step back," she told her, and Adela obeyed.

The witch joined her hands; she closed her eyes and bowed her head. She began to babble in a language that the girls had never heard before.

An intense glow began to come out of his clasped hands. The light changed several colors until it turned white and slowly faded utterly. The witch raised her head, whispered something more in her incomprehensible language, and opened her eyes. Adela noticed the witch's eyes had turned purple. The witch opened her hands gently, and a small bottle appeared floating into the air. When the witch took it in her hands, her eyes returned to their original color.
