Capítulo 41: chapter 40

After I sent him the text,I went to the bathroom and took a shower, brushed my teeth and went to bed.
No matter how hard I tried to sleep I couldn't, I tossed and turned around but there was no sleep.
So I took my phone and scroll down the photos and videos which Martha and I took ever since we joined here and I could see myself happy as I watched those happy days.
During our first year we weren't lucky to be roommates as I hoped that when she was paired with Sophia and I was paired with another girl who was in my class when we were in high school but I never spoke to her as she was a loner.
I had fun getting to know her as we also had most of classes together her name was Sharon but unfortunately she didn't come back this year due to personal issues.
So another girl who happen to be in our cheerleaders group who joined this year as well became my roommate, her name is Stella.
She isn't much of interactive as I thought she was as she seemed to be talkative to some students who she was drinking with.
After few months she transferred to another college which resulted me to be alone with no roommates which is fine for a while.
Unexpectedly, one time as I came back to my dorm, I was super tired I just went inside only to see Martha screaming with excitement as she approached me.
"Finally am so happy we got to be roommates" she said as she hugged me.
I was happy as well as I have missed her so much and the only time I got to hang out was during weekends but now things were going to be fine at last.
Now that she's my roommate, I couldn't hide my excitement, ever since that time we became inseparable.Not only did we have same classes but also I loved cheerleading, so we both singed up for trials and by the end of the day we went to look at the school board where people were looking at the list of those who were chosen.
Martha and I pushed through the crowd until we were close to the board we looked at the list and found our names ,we were super excited that we screamed so loud ad we jumped up.
"We made it" we said in unison.
As celebration, we went to a restaurant and had a blast. We celebrated like there was no tomorrow.
Since then we became inseparable. We also became popular because we were part of cheerleaders group.
We only have two more years to go and life couldn't be more fun,now I happen to like a scholarship kid who just joined a basketball team and he also liked me.
As I thought about everything, my eyes became heavy and closed my eyes before I closed my eyes I made sure I didn't miss to turn my alarm on before I put my phone on the side table.
Little bit later,my phone rang and I looked at the caller and saw Brian's name on the phone. I quickly sat up and answered as my heart skipped a bit as I answered his call.
"Hey Brian, what's up?" I asked as I held my chest.
"Did I wake you up?"He asked as he whispered.
"Yeah but it's fine, how's your mom doing?" I asked as I laid my head on the headboard.
"She's still unconscious and the doctor just left after he checked her" he said.
After that we talked for a while until I heard someone yelling from the other side.
I was about to ask Brian about the noise when he suddenly cut the call. I wonder if something happened to his mom.
So I quickly called his phone but it was unreachable. I called his phone multiple times but I had no luck reaching him.
I couldn't leave the dorm either because it was already late so I waited until the morning.
After an hour or so I was ready to leave but before that,I woke Martha. Though she's a heavy sleeper I managed to wake her.
"What do you want samra,am sleeping?" She asked as she sat up.
"Remember we have a project to represent today so you have to do it with Sophia OK?"I reminded her.
"Yeah I know but why me though?it's a group project" she asked as she looked at me confused.
"I would but I can't so please go to class and do the presentation for me as well I promise to tell you as soon I find out what happened to Brian"i said as I took my bag and left the dorm.
As I walked towards the gate,I met anya and tori who are in our group of the cheerleading.
"Where are you of to this morning?"Anya asked as they approached me.
"Am going to visit a friend who is in the hospital,catch you soon" I said as I walked past them.
I walked to the road and saw a taxi stopping near our gate. I quickly got in and told the driver to take me to the junior hospital where Brian's mom was admitted.
It took me an hour to reach there because of the traffic jam. I paid the driver and went inside the hospital.
As I passed by some rooms, I saw Brian talking to a doctor, after that he left. I looked at Brian he looked like he didn't sleep at all and he also looked tired.
As he turned around he saw me and he gave me a weak smile. I waved at him and walked to him.
"Is everything OK?" I asked as we sat down at the near bench.
"Not exactly, last night as we talked, a nurse who usually came to take care of her found her unconscious as the monitor beeped louder and the doctor came just in time to do cpr and managed to get her back " he said as he held his head as he looked down on the floor.
"What did the doctor say to you?" I asked as I got closer to him.
"He.... just... broke the sad news to me, she has brain tumor samra, a tumor ? Can you believe that?" He asked as his eyes teard up.
I couldn't hold my tears as well, I pat his back as he cried and he hugged me and I hugged him back.
"Don't lose hope yet Brian, am sure things will be fine" I said honestly I didn't know what to say.
It felt like my heart was hurting as Well. All I want was life to be a bit fare to him, not only wad he worried about his mom's health but also his young brother yunus who was only a kindergarten.
"Let's get you something to eat,you look hungry and also need to get some sleep as well" I said as I wanted to distract him from thinking about his sudden situation.
He smiled and we walked back together to his mom's room, where his mom was still unconscious and she had a ventilator around her mouth this was different from the other one.
As I looked at his mom,his brother came and gave me a hug and I hugged him back.
"You came back?"He asked as he still didn't let me go.
"Yeah I did, wanna grab something to eat?" I asked smiling at him.
"Yeah, food yummy" he said as he ran out of the room.
I couldn't help but to admire his cuteness as he ran around the corridor as Brian and I walked together.
"It must be hard for you not able to tell him the painful truth" I said as we walked together inside the cafeteria.
"Yeah it is sometime, the only lucky thing is he can't differentiate what's going on" Brian said as we all sat down.
After few minutes, we ordered food and I decided to call Sophia. Though we might not be close but I can't help but to think we are friends.
We have differences, but I shouldn't think that it's difficult to become friends with her.
Though she's been passing her exams and is known for love for studies, she's a nerd with no glasses and usually introverted.
She's also religious and doesn't mingle with people and she's also mysterious which is making me curious to know her even more.
After we talked I went back to see Brian with his brother watching something from his laptop.
I sat down in one of the couch and my phone beeped with a notification, I looked at it and saw Martha's text.

I did as you told me and did the presentation, guess what we failed and if you don't mind tell me where you ran off this morning?

Sorry for the result, I had to come and see Brian, his mom was in a critical condition and I had no choice but to see him.
Martha 💕
That's sad,but it doesn't justify that you made me do the presentation and for that we are left with a warning, better pray that our mom's don't kill us before graduation 💀.
I chuckled at her response as I know she just so dramatic queen.
"You seem happy anything interesting?"Brian asked as he walked towards me.
"Yeah it's Martha,she did the presentation with Sophia, unfortunately we failed and now she thinks our moms are going to kill us" I said as I showed him the text.
"She sounds scared, are you sure she's not really concerned about her failing her presentation "he asked looking at me confused.
One thing I know for sure is that Martha doesn't care about grades or college, she believes that she'll take over her family's business and life goes on.
I on the other hand have different plan,not sure if it will work but am confident enough to do the different path.....
