Capítulo 5: Company
I wake feeling the softness of fur behind me and the cold hard stone floor. Only truly evident when I roll over. Admittedly my fault for trying to go back to sleep, though now I am fully awake.
I sit up and a fluffy panther head lays in my lap just then. when I don't immediately go to pet him, he looks up at me with big eyes and I give in.
The first two days pass easily but I quickly get bored. I start taking walks with the panther keeping me company. I go further each time. I was never really one for exercise but that just goes to show just how bored I have become. As nice as it is to have company he gets me all my food and I don't end up having much to do. I really wish I had someone to talk to.
On the third morning I got out and search trees for eggs. I wake the forth day and find so many eggs in the cavern it takes up several nests. After I cook the eggs I see the panther pacing and he, for the fist time since he came, left without me.
The forth day passes slowly and I try to go for a walk but it was disconcerting without company. I still gather more fire wood so I can keep myself warm at night. I go back for more several times on the fifth day. The sixth day I didn't do much but I did eat quite few eggs. The seventh day I start to get worried about food stock so it seems since they weren't chicken eggs it takes more to make you full especially when your upset.
Counting the eggs I had left I sectioned them by meal and then after breakfast I went out to see if I could find any familiar plant life. I found a little cotton that wasn't ready to harvest and a few stalks of corn. I made sure to grab all of those since I noticed birds had started to get into them. It looked like there was some sort of bean growing on the stalks that and it had a leafy plant that turned out to be squash. I came back with 6 corn (only 4 good ones), a handful of beans and 3 of what looked like zucchini.
Having returned to the cavern I place all the stuff in a corner and look in the area inside the hedges. I come to realize there are some strawberries one the far left and nibble on a few. Also on the left are some blueberries though the birds found those as well.
I go over to the right and it has a lot of trees. I find cherries some apricots and mangos. I get a little lost by the time I'm done exploring I am full. I don't bother to harvest any as it is just me.
I go to the river and look through the dirt to find one that seems like clay. I end up in the pond but I found something I think is clay and try to dig two full handfuls. Taking it back to the cave form the mud into a crude pot like shape keeping the walls as thick as a sugar cookies before you bake them and the abase a little thicker. I leave that to dry in the sun and take a few of the leaves from the corn and put them in the bottom and along the walls of the pot.
Then I take my good corn and place them under the ashes and add a few rock before setting up for a fire. Seeing that it is not quite dusk I go out to find my spear and attempt to spear fish again. I manage to get one and don't try to push my luck. I start a fire and bring in the clay pot to sit near the fire. once the fire settles to a steady flame I set the fish to roast and some eggs to pre-cook for breakfast.
Having set the food to cook I take the time to rinse my clothes and set them to dry by the fire as well (not too close). Not wanting to stand around naked or wet, I go for a skinny dip in the water staying behind the water fall to check on the fire and food. Once I feel clean I step out and sit by the fire to dry off.
I eat the fish and use that stick to push the eggs away from the fire and pull out the corn. I eat two corns and put the egg and other two corns to the side. once my clothes are dry I put them on and settle in one the spot the food was cooling off on to stay warm.
The ninth day started like the others I ate the breakfast that I prepped the night before went on a walk and around noon I gathered some fruits before climbing a tree on the right that was closest to the clearing for a good view as I ate. Partway through eating I hear some sounds that seem close to the clearing I'm in. I get off the tree and finish the fruit I was eating putting the rest in my pockets. Through the hedges comes the panther I go over towards him and he walks toward me. I bend down and hug him.
~It's so good to see you again~ I think
~It is good to be back~ he responds in my head
I peel back to look at him not sure if it was just my head and end up seeing that behind the panther was a horse with bags on it's back.
~ Ah yes and I brought company~ he adds
