Capítulo 4: Just a Dream

Editor: Atlas Studios

Xu Wan didn't expect Qiao Chen to misunderstand her completely.

It was not that she did not agree to annul the engagement, she just did not want to be the one bringing up this matter.

Master Qiao and Second Master Qiao obviously wanted her to become the daughter-in-law of the Qiao family so that they could reap the monetary benefits. If she rejected them now, it was no different from telling them directly, "I'm not giving you tens of billions worth of assets."

Wasn't that openly offending those two people?

Although Xu Wan was not very smart, she could still understand this.

Besides, she had been staying with the Qiao family for so many years. Other than Old Master Qiao, who cared about her, everyone else treated her as if she was transparent.

People like Qiao Nan, who could not stand Xu Wan, would bluntly say that she was a freeloader.

Would it work out if she told First Young Master Qiao and Second Young Master Qiao that she would not be marrying Qiao Chen?

"If you're still not satisfied, I'll give you another 20 million every year. What do you think? Don't be too greedy. You are not fit to be my wife. Don't continue testing my patience. Also, I'm not asking for your opinion. I'm just informing you in advance on account of my dad." Qiao Chen's words were as cold as ice.

After saying those words, Qiao Chen placed a printed contract on the table and tapped it with his slender fingers. "Sign it."

His tone was icy and condescending.

Xu Wan slowly looked up at Qiao Chen.

Was this the man who had hugged her that night?

She still remembered feeling the scorching heat on his body. It burned her, but also ignited her. At that moment, she realized that she could actually be so close to him. The intertwining of their bodies almost led her to think that the two of them were truly deeply in love.

So it was just a dream.

He was just delirious that night. The real him was probably the person in front of her—arrogant, cold, aloof—a man who looks down on everyone else.

On the other hand, she was as insignificant as a lowly ant. How would she be able to make him notice her?

Xu Wan closed her eyes gently as she suppressed a million thoughts that flashed across her mind. She picked up the pen with trembling hands and said in a frail, broken tone, "Okay, I'll sign it."

The moment she put down the pen, she felt a tinge of sadness.

Perhaps in the future, she would have nothing to do with that man anymore?

Why did she feel a little regretful?

Maybe it was because everyone had been treating her as his fiancée all these years. Even she subconsciously thought that one day, the two of them would get together.

She knew he was cold, and he didn't like her.

But she's still a teenage girl and every teenage girl has some unrealistic fantasies. She had been fantasizing—maybe she would have a chance? Or maybe… he would take a few more glances at her?

But there was no 'maybe' in this world.

After Xu Wan signed the contract, Qiao Chen nodded his head and was about to leave when she stopped him. "Mr. Qiao, I can break off the engagement with you, but I don't want the money."

She had already been left with next to nothing. She did not want to lose her dignity as well.

Qiao Chen frowned and finally glanced at Xu Wan.

It was as if he was looking at an abnormal person. But very quickly, the puzzling look in his eyes faded, and he said indifferently, "Up to you."

As she watched Qiao Chen leave, Xu Wan sat down in exhaustion. She hugged her knees and curled up in a ball.

Qiao Chen passed the contract to his assistant and was about to leave when he thought of something. He picked up his phone and made a call.

"Have you found her yet?" Qiao Chen's tone was indifferent as usual, but this time he sounded doubtful. He was clearly a little concerned about this matter.

"Third Master, I found her. The person who helped to detoxify you that night was Ms. Qiao Shi's classmate. Her name is Bai Zhen. Do you want her to be brought to your place?"

"Okay, bring her to my place and receive her well." Qiao Chen hung up. He thought about how he could soon see the woman whom he slept with that night and felt an inexplicable sense of anticipation.

What was he expecting?

She was just a one-night stand.

Just that she had made him lose his mind. Even after that incident, he recalled the scene of the two of them copulating several times, which was rather unusual.

Qiao Chen lowered his head and laughed self-deprecatingly. Had he not done it for too long?

Probably so. After all, he couldn't possibly fall in love with another woman. Apart from that one woman, there's no room left in his heart for another woman.

Three days later, Xu Wan found an apartment and moved out of Langyue Residences. Her roommate even came over to help her move some things. She didn't have many things, so she quickly finished moving everything.

"Wan wan, why did you move out?"

"Umm… I'm going to work part-time. I'm afraid that I'll come back later and disturb you when you're studying. You guys are preparing to take the entrance exam for your post-graduate studies soon. All the best!" Xu Wan encouraged her roommate as she patted her roommate's shoulder with a smile on her face.

"Wan wan, you're too nice! But are you short of money now? Do you want me to lend you money?" The roommate looked at Xu Wan curiously. "I heard you talking to your uncle over the phone. Don't you have a fiancé? Why didn't he come to help you move?"
