The demons all looked at Venethan with wide eyes. "You care that much about magic?" Zakara asked.
"Yes," he replied fervently. "Magic is my life's work."
They relaxed slightly after that. Perhaps they could see his zeal in his face. Mezann turned back to Zarath curiously. "How much have you shown him?"
"Everything I know. But I am not the most accomplished demon in the realm. I would not have been nearly killed by the demon king if I was."
"Do not underestimate yourself, Zarath. Most who go up against the demon king do not live to tell the tale. I would say that makes you fairly accomplished. You not only survived but managed to win the favor of the ruling fairies and come back to free us from a life of depravation."
