Capítulo 3: Leaf Village

Y/N woke up coughing and gasping for air. Her vision was blurry and head heavy, she felt weak. She tried to understand her surroundings, and realized that she might be on the bank of a river, her clothes and hair were wet. She continued coughing and tried to move. Using her hands, she tried her best to drag herself on the surface.

Soon she was lying on her back, when she realized that she was in a middle of a forest. But it was not the same forest she was used to. It felt different. Her mind raced as she tried to think of her father, and the person who was the reason for this in the first place.

She found difficulty in breathing. For the time being, she tried her hardest to move but her body was against it.

Y/N tried looking around and noticed some shadow figures jumping from one tree to another. Then, they stopped moving. Taking a good amount of time to observe, she realized that those figures were in fact humans and not monkeys. They were all wearing strange masks.

They jumped down before her and looked at her carefully, whispering among themselves. Y/N felt very scared. These might be the same people who hit her back then. She whimpered and tried her best to get up. She heard was one of them say, "It's okay, calm down. We won't hurt you." She felt him pick her up and said to the others, "We need to move fast."

Her hands went briefly to get hold of the mask on his face, but slid down immediately as she lost consciousness.

Y/N woke up with the sunlight falling on her face through the window. Now, she felt thirsty.

Groaning, she sat up as her headache was getting worse by every passing second.

"Oh! You're up!" A nurse said walking in. Y/N flinched hearing her voice as she was still getting used to the bright light along with the few voices entering her ears.

She looked at the nurse standing before her and asked, "How long was I out?"

"Almost a month."

"..."

"Just kidding." She added. "Just a few hours. We found you near a lake. So we don't have many information about you little girl." The nurse continued, "...So....We had to inform the Hokage. You can then go back to your parents."

"W-Where am I?" Y/N asked in between.

"In the hospital."

"No...no..th-the place."

"Oh! You're in the Leaf Village."

Y/N sat there thinking where she heard about it. It sounded extremely familiar. Leaf...village, sounded like out of some fairytale. She kept thinking about the words she heard when she suddenly remembered.

"It can't be...a-are you joking again?"

"No..not this time."

"W-what? This can't be true. H-How can? Am I hallucinating...or losing my mind? This is absolutely not possible...it was all a story ofcourse," Y/N continued mumbling when she earned a squeeze on her cheek.

She looked up at the nurse who said, "Thought you need a proof to believe this is real. Why? Is Leaf Village that popular that it's almost unbelievable?"

No, it wasn't unbelievable for being popular but because she remembered hearing stories of the village from her parents. She could remember how her parents used to tell her stories of this place to her. And she always thought of it as fairytales. As it should be, right? Having nightmares after going to bed repeatedly was what it took for them to finally stop with the stories. She always thought it might be because of the horrors they spoke about.

A shiver ran down her spine.

If this was really leaf village then all those stories about wars and...deaths must be true. And also the fact that these people had something called 'chakra'.

Just then, there was a knock on the door along with someone peeking in who said, "The Hokage is here to see the girl."

"The Hokage?" The nurse questioned, "It's time for you to get up, I guess. Don't strain yourself, okay? And princess? Be polite."

"Princess?" Y/N scrunched up her nose hearing the nickname.

She waited for the person to get in in order to make her doubts clear.

"Hello child." The Hokage said.

Yes. She was right, and it isn't some kind of a dream.

She was in fact, in the Leaf Village. There was no possibility of so many people lying to her together about this, right?

The Third Hokage entered along with a few other people. Her parents always talked about stories of great ninjas. She didn't remember all the details but just the important ones...like Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage.

"Hello um..." Y/N proceeded to greet the Third Hokage.

"You can call me Grandpa."

"Alright...um..grandpa Hokage."

"I'll get to the point. How did you get here? Do you remember anything?"

"I-I.." Y/N stuttered and looked at the other people in the room. The Hokage sighed and ordered them to stand outside.

"Comfortable enough?"

"Yes...but..I'm not sure you'll believe me."

"You can leave that decision up to me."

She kept quiet for a moment, frowning at him. Everything felt confusing. Where was her father? Did they know about all of these? Surely they did since they were the ones to tell her. But why did they never talk about this? Because of some mere nightmares? She had to go back. And for that to happen, she really did need their help. Y/N then told him everything, every little detail of the day along with a few details of her livelihood.

"It sounds almost unbelievable for a few reasons but..." Hiruzen waited for her reaction and then spoke after a while, "But...you need to find the place if you want to go back. Just a 'forest' isn't exactly an accurate designation for your residence. It can be anywhere. How come you don't know where you live?" the Third Hokage asked, and observed her quietly waiting for a response. Y/N blushed in embarrassment and looked down. She didn't exactly have an answer to that. She was always moving around in different regions with her parents and the few families, all her life. What place didn't exactly matter to her when she was mostly surrounded by forests.

Hiruzen sighed, "All we know is you came out of water, so it can be a small clue. Till then you can stay here. I'll make arrangements for you."

"Thank You." She said smiling softly, "I want to go...home. My parents must be worried. I don't know if my father.." Her smile faltered for a bit but she looked fine again, "I'm sure he's fine. He's strong."

"Okay then. For now," Hiruzen said smiling, "May I know your name?"

It has been some time since Y/N got her new apartment and it was well furnished - a bed, a table, an almirah and a fridge to be exact. She ofcourse knew how everything worked after hearing stories from her parents and thought she will have to atleast pay it's rent but Hiruzen made it clear that no kind of money will be accepted from her. It would be inhumane to take money from a child who had zero knowledge about the whereabouts of her parents.

"Ofcourse not. You're new here, and it's the least we can do for you." He stated. Y/N felt relived, and took it with the meaning that she would soon be out of here, back to her parents.

She started training and realized she in fact, had chakra. She also heard of many nuisances created by Naruto, ofcourse, but...she never actually got the chance to see or meet him in person. She heard the surname 'Uzumaki' and what happened back then from her parents. It was awful, but she didn't expect the kid to grow up and be 'the naughty kid' of the neighborhood instead of being depressed. In a way, his way of living did lit a fire inside of her to try her best and continue living in this place when so many others offered to help her.

Hiruzen wanted her to get in school but because she was in the middle of a session, she didn't get admission in the school. He made arrangements for her to be homeschooled and taught her everything in short from the very beginning - starting from what is chakra. Y/N was also given special attention by the Hokage who was seen to be visiting her occasionally and teaching her a few things himself, as seen by many villagers. Having knowledge about the places helped her in learning all of it really quickly. Besides, being homeschooled her whole life, it felt comfortable rather than sitting in a whole new environment with new faces. And her training with her father was also a huge help.

It would be a lie to say Y/N wasn't scared. She was in fact, very very scared to be in an atmosphere where people can kill her anytime. After all, humans are more viscous than wild animals. And as much as she wanted to leave and go back to her parents, she wasn't naïve. She knew how long it takes to find a missing person. In her case, they had to find the whole neighborhood she lived in without any proper clue. All she can do for the time being is wait patiently...right?

Speaking of the word, it took a lot of patience to teach Y/N, considering she was scared of everything around her and often, didn't use any kind of defense to protect herself from harm during training. But the teachers, specifically, Iruka Umino, took a long time to make sure she made herself comfortable in the atmosphere and, bit by bit, he slowly turned down her fear. Which finally gave her the confidence and purpose.

She wanted to find her way back home again with her own efforts too. Clearly, with her zero knowledge about the area, the ninjas could only search for them for some time. But she wasn't ready to give up yet. She wanted to go back and ask her parents about how they knew about these places. She had a lot of questions she needed answers for. Training and studying could only distract her from the reality for some time. It was inevitable that the hollow feeling inside of her will grow as days pass by without her family.

Oneday, as they were resting in the weekend after an hour of training, Y/N said, "S-Sensei.."

"Yes?" He said while eating his lunch.

"Can I please take part in the Genin exam?"

"Sure. I was in fact thinking about getting you admission in the school. You can come from the day after tomorrow. You're no more lagging behind in the basics. I can help you catch up with the rest of the syllabus. I believe I've taught you well and won't disappoint me at all."

"Thank you Sensei....for everything." Y/N smiled.

He smiled back and said, "Come on. We aren't done with our training yet."

She got up and walked out with her teacher. Y/N didn't know the kind of people she was about to meet in her class. But there was one specific boy that interested her ofcourse. The notorious Uzumaki Naruto.
