Wesley set Nadine's bag down on the sofa.

Candi hadn't even come inside.

"You good?" Wesley asked.

Quentin glanced at the front door of the modest cottage. He wanted Candi to walk through that door and demand to stay or to hear from him or...anything. Her continued silence hurt.

"Yeah, I think so," he finally said.

Wesley pushed his sunglasses back up his nose. "Good. Hitting the road then. There should be some food in the freezer for while you wait."

"Where are you taking her?" Quentin asked softly.

He gave Quentin a long look. "I think telling you would defeat the whole purpose of her going with me."

"You're right. Sorry..." It was his heart talking, not his head.
