The day of the Christmas party had finally arrived. Evelyn dressed half-heartedly in a peach-coloured lace-up gown that evoked warmth and youthfulness amid the winter. As a maid tied up the laces of her dress, she stood there looking in the mirror.
Her hair was pulled back into a messy bun, and her lips were tinted peach. She was looking like a rose in a garden. Everything was beautiful, except she didn't have a smile on her face.
Earl would have attended the celebration with her, but he was preoccupied with the duties assigned by her father and was out of town once again. Anyways, she was sure she would meet Bele there. With this hope, she glanced at her reflection one last time and exited from her room.
