Capítulo 695: Slow Rise

Riften was the first city to fall under Surtr's thrall. His tactic of simply flying over the city and using the Bend Will shout on every corner of it was stupidly effective. The shout was able to pass through a few walls before dissipating, allowing him to reach even those inside their basements from the sky.

The only people who were protected against this were those who lived in the Ratway, along with the Thieves Guild, this was easily rectified however by simply having the entire city march down there and drag anyone that wasn't controlled out.

Brynjolf was actually somewhat resistant against the mind control, but when subjected to a dozen or more at point-blank range his resistance quickly fell. He was all too eager to offer the location and identity of every member and hideout of the Thieves Guild.

After the main city was done, he made the effort to fly around the local farms and fisheries to bring the stragglers to heel. It had probably been the quickest invasion in history, if you disregarded the fact that he technically already ruled said city...

Regardless, he had Brynjolf give him everything he had on Michael and his acquaintances, only to find very little in the way of leverage. Most information was old and now inaccurate, even the discory that Michael owned the Skyrend Company didn't help as it'd ceased any and all weapons manufacturing after Alduin had been killed. The only purpose the company served nowadays was creating strange technologies that didn't look too dissimilar from what the Dwemer had.

Those 'Fatherclocks', while intriguing, didn't help him at all in their conflict... Though, he did find a peculiar device in one of the company's shops... It was a black and yellow rectangular object with strange compressable circles dotted on what seemed to be its front, along with a glass screen and 'grill'?

Surtr presses the big red button and the thing crackles to life, and not a moment later someone answers it...? "Skyrend Whiterun, password and designation please."

Mildly panicking, Surtr throws the thing at the wall, shattering it and rendering it a million little pieces of scrap...

"Daedric device... I should have known he would be doing something like this... Containing souls inside little black boxes!? Who knew he was capable of such evil!?"

----------------------

After Riften fell, he made way for Falkreath next... Surprisingly, this was a far harder task than the last as the Hold's spread-out rural population didn't allow him to catch large swathes of people in one shout. This forced him to spend a day tracking people down via their friends and relatives...

Thankfully Falkreath's isolation was made for by its relatively small population, allowing him to quickly move on to his next target... Whiterun.

Except, once he flew into sight of the city, he was baffled to find a group of dragons circling it... Three of which had humanoid silhouettes riding them. "Miraak..." his face falls as he utters, realising that his foe somehow hadn't been killed in Solstheim... Had Michael's men lied about it? No... He saw the explosion, and they had no reason to spare him either...

Wait... Wasn't Alduin able to resurrect dragons with a shout? It would likely work on Dragonborn too, right? They were dragons too!...

He shakes his head and prompts his dragon to approach, flying slightly above the hostile beasts as he slowly neared the three riders.

"How joyous, the prodigal son has returned!" Miraak drawls, "Well? What now Surtr? You're here without your army, without those assassins to kill me for you... What can you possibly do"?

"Maybe you should tell me what your goal is for Whiterun?" Surtr grouses, realising just how bad his position was.

Miraak glances down at it, the peaceful city now sent into turmoil due to his and his dragon's presence. The place had almost been raised by a single dragon, yet there were over ten of them flying around now. "I plan to burn it," he points at Dragonsreach at the top of the town, "That is a symbol of our persecution, we Dragonborn can't allow such a blatant attack to stand... Is what I should say, but in reality, I just want to see the smoke rise." he states with a grin, the mask he was wearing a reconstruction of the one that'd been shattered, allowing parts of his face to show.

"You won't." Surtr promises, "I as Dragonborn was born here, it will stand."

Miraak tilts his head, "So? Try to stop me." he looks to the pink-haired girl flying on a dragon beside him. "Destroy them."

She nods, but as she's casting her spell Surtr speaks up once again, "I challenge you to a duel! Let us settle this as men, true Nords!"

...

"Hah? You want to challenge me? Again?" Miraak laughs, "In Solstheim I beat you to a pulp while my army watched. And now you want me to do it again? You who now faces a small army of dragons?"

Surtr nods firmly, "Do you refuse? Are you a coward!?" he growls challengingly.

...

"As you wish, there won't be any mercy this time however. When we reach the ground, I will kill you."

Surtr shakes his head, "No. It is you who will die today, you've lived long enough so it's time you move on. I doubt Sovngarde will accept scum like you though," he states as they both descend into a large field outside Whiterun, both ready to tear each other's throats out.

They set foot a good distance from one another and wait until their respective mounts leave...

"Remember what I said last, Surtr? The throne will be safe with me, I intend to live longer than the gods, and my Empire longer still."

"Hmph, you say that as if you've already won." Surtr growls as he draws Wuuthrad from his back, "Well then, come! This time will be different from last! Even death won't protect you from me!"

Capítulo 696: Kin-Dread

""FUS RO DAH!"" both men shout Unrelenting Force at one another, the shockwaves meeting and colliding. They blow out sideways and mar the grass with a small line-like crater. Though, by the way the wind blew against Surtr's helmeted face, his shout had come off worse in the exchange... This was not unexpected however.

"HI AHNEY KRIF UV MAH, TIL LOS NID KO NIX! HIN TIID LOST BO WAH OBLAAN, SURTR!" (YOU EITHER FIGHT OR FALL, THERE IS NO IN-BETWEEN! YOUR TIME HAS COME TO AN END, SURTR!)

"HI FEND LOST LORGRI DILON! ZU'U KRIIN ALDUIN! ZU'U LOS JUN DO DAAR HUMDAH AHRK FAAL KAACHA REL DO TAAZOKAAN! HILOS NUNON VOKUN AHK FAAS WAH LUFT OK DEZ!" (YOU SHOULD HAVE REMAINED DEAD! I SLEW ALDUIN! I'M KING OF THIS LAND AND THE RIGHTFUL RULER OF TAMRIEL! YOU ARE JUST A SHADOW TOO AFRAID TO FACE HIS FATE!)

""MID VUR SHAAN!""

""SU GRAH DUN!!""

""TIID KLO UI!!!""

""WULD NAH KEST!!""

They both shout the litany of shouts at the same time, and once done their forms blur and suddenly burst at one another with speeds even a seasoned warrior would find difficult to see, let alone defend against.

*CLANG*!

Wuuthrad slams hard against the base of Miraak's corrupted blade as they pass one another, the axe's sheer weight allowing Surtr to win the clash, though, the only damage done was straining Miraak's wrist slightly.

""WULD NAH KEST!"" they shout again, flying towards one another under their multiple speed buffs and their perception of time sped up. They land next to each other this time, Miraak easily deflecting the axe headed for his head before making a stab for Surtr's arm.

His corrupted blade flicks out and cuts half an inch into the dragon bone plating, but Surtr headbutts Miraak in his mask before he can breach through and draw blood. His dragon bone helmet smashes hard into the mask, shattering it due to its rather haphazard weak reconstruction.

Miraak shakes his head and brushes the metal dust and shards from his face and glares at Surtr, the left side of his mouth showing his unnaturally sharp teeth. "YOL TOOR SHUL!"

"FO KRAH DIIN!" Surtr roars in response, causing the streams of fire and ice to clash and produce large amounts of steam. Both give up their attack once it covers the area and obscures their vision, forcing both to shout ""Silkun Vahzah Koraav!"", which reveals their aura to the other.

"ZUN HAAL VIK!"

"GAAN LAH HAAS!"

"LIZ SLEN NUS!"

"KRII LUN AUS!"

""YOL TOOR SHUL!""

The meeting blast of fire blows the steam away, revealing the scorched, battered, and torn field, now devoid of grass and flowers that'd previously been there.

Surtr ceases the shout at the same time as Miraak and shakes his head, his throat feeling particularly harsh due to the many high-powered shouts he'd thrown out.

Miraak wasn't the same however, still standing stern and tall, with a cocky, bloodthirsty grin plastered across his face. "Is that all? Maybe I should let you rest, while I burn down Whiterun."

"Damn you to Oblivion!." Surtr growls

"Again? I think not." he drawls before slashing his weapon, the tendrils bubbling beneath its hilt shooting out like a whip towards the Last Dragonborn's neck.

Surtr ducks under it and brings Wuuthrad down on the thin neck of the tendril connecting it, since the tendril's perception of time was not enhanced like his or Miraak's, he strikes true and serves it.

The thing, whatever it is, releases a high-pitched scream as it writhes on the floor, the blade in Miraak's hand wriggling as if it was in pain.

Miraak just looks at it in disgust and tosses it aside however, unwilling to wield such an unworthy weapon. "Let me bear my soul to you, then. "MUL QAH DIIV!" he roars, allowing golden light to envelope him, and transforms into a huge see-through dragon.

"THIS IS POWER! SHOW ME YOUR MIGHT, SURTR! FACE ME!" he laughs hysterically from the inside the chest of the dragon.

Surtr wets his lips and bites the inside of his cheek to firm his resolve. "COME! JOOR ZAH FRUL!" he loudly responds, using Dragonrend to try and fight against Miraak's unknown shout. Since they were technically dragons, there was no reason that Dragonrend couldn't work on a mortal, especially when Miraak was utilising his dragon aspect so fiercely like that.

Miraak takes the glowing blue shockwave head-on, expecting it to do nothing, but lets out a gasp as the blue infuses his entire form, causing cracks to start forming on the golden dragon's exterior. He isn't able to get out a single word when the thing starts crumbling, its legs giving out and allowing it to fall on its chest, the rest of its weight landing on Miraak as it slowly disperses.

He tears himself out of the evaporating corpse with a vicious growl, but only then realises that he'd thrown away his sword... Just as Surtr was charging him with Wuuthrad.

"JUST. DIE. ALREADY!!" he almost maniacally roars as he slams the head of the axe down at Miraak. The First Dragonborn grabs the weapon as it approaches him, lacerating his hands as he tries to slow it. It hits him in the forehead and draws blood, but it wasn't strong enough to pierce his corruption-enhanced skull.

Surtr pushes his weight against his downed opponent as they struggle for control, each trembling as they put their utmost strength into it. Blood streams down Miraak's face, but his eyes continue to stare despair his vision turning crimson. "GO-OD. FIGHT..."

*PUUCHI!*

The axe finally goes through as Miraak loses his grip, the metal cutting cleanly through his forehead and into his brain, killing him and allowing Surtr to start absorbing his soul. Surtr doesn't stop until the axe had split the skull in two however, afterwards throwing it to the side and roaring up at the sky.

"YOU'RE NEXT! FALSE GODS! NO ONE CAN FACE ME! NO ONE!!!"
