Crescent could only guess that the refence of 'mate' was something that Bane hadn't yet explained to her.
"Yeah. Another way to refer to one's partner." Crescent replied as he occupied one of the stools at the front counter while waiting for Celeste to get the coffee.
"Oh." She replied as he grabbed the cup and began to write down the coffee sequence Edgar had her memorize since Bane liked it.
"In what type of circumstances would you use it?" she then asked as she started to gather together the ingredients that she would need. Not everyone was in yet which meant that she was left to take and put together orders of every customer that came through the door.
"Intimate circumstances generally." the silver haired man explained as he rested his arms on the counter.
"Usually used to refer to one's fated partner. The person they'll inevitably end up with." he elaborated, not missing the odd look that passed over the other's face when he said this. She didn't say anything right away through as she needed to run the blender once she had all the ingredients inside.
"Fated person? Does that kind of person actually exist? I mean I don't think that anyone is truly fated to anyone else. People sometimes are just lucky enough to find that right person who is the perfect fit for them." She said as she poured the coffee into the cup before putting the lid on it.
"Have you ever considered though that maybe it isn't just luck that brings them together? That there's another piece in play that can't be seen?" Crescent questioned as he took the cup of coffee.
"Not everything is always as it seems." He continued as he started to look over the menu realizing that he hadn't decide what coffee he wanted yet.
"I guess you could be right." She conceded. She wasn't sure though that was something that she believed in. In her life at least, she had never encountered anything like that.
"You said though you wanted something for your mate that's sweet?" She asked changing the subject as she moved over to the glass case.
"I might recommend these scones then. They're rather sweet and heat up well with some butter while staying soft and moist." She said pointing out some currant scones.
"Oh, you think they'd be good? Could I get four of them please. Do you also have a recommendation for something cold and sweet but with extra caffeine?" Crescent then asked as he pulled his wallet out of his pocket so that he could get ready to pay for anything.
"I can recommend two different ones that might fit your taste, would you like to test try them before you decide?" She asked as she began to grab out the scones, wrapping them in parchment paper before putting them carefully into paper bag for the other to carry out. He thought for a second before he replied with a shake of his head.
"I'll just take both. I'm sure that I'll like them and I could use the extra caffeine for work anyways." He replied as he took the bag from her and put shifted it to the side with Bane's coffee.
"I might need a drink holder to carry them out in though if that wouldn't be asking too much?" He inquired. Celeste turned around and asked one of the other girls who had come in if they could that while she was getting the coffees ready.
"I thought that you said you had the day off though?" Crescent asked as she finished with the first coffee and put it in the cup, making sure she didn't forget to grab a straw to go with it.
"I do have day the off, but I have the graveyard shift tonight. Won't be sleeping much." He replied with a laugh.
"What do you do?" Pepper asked as she helped to get his drinks together in the cardboard cup holder as Celeste worked to finish the last drink.
"I work as a doctor actually. Well, getting there at least." He replied, thanking the other for her help as he handed her a card so that he could get everything paid for.
"I'm halfway through my residency but they promise me if I keep up with the way I'm going that I'll be kept on straight out the door once I finish. If I'm still alive after everything." He joked.
"I had a friend who did it and said that you basically had to become a zombie in order to get through it because you ended up working more than you can sleep, is that true?" The other girl asked, interested to know if it was true or not.
"Well it depends on what field you go into, but over all your friend isn't wrong. Residency is usually eighty plus hours a week. Not including homework and other things that you need to take care of around it. Some days you work double shifts with only an hour or two in-between to sleep or do anything else." Crescent explained.
"That's why I need the coffee to help me get through so I don't crash on the job." He took back in credit card and immediately put it into his wallet before picking everything up of coffee the counter so that he could get ready to leave.
It was easy enough to walk there without anything in his hands. Now though he might consider getting a taxi to make sure he didn't end up dropping anything on the way.
"Thank you both so much and it was nice seeing you again Crescent. Thanks for putting up with my brother. I assure you though he isn't as much trouble as he seems." He said, offering a small smile and nod of his head before he left the coffee shop.
Crescent didn't reply to him as she wasn't quite sure what to say. She didn't exactly agree with the fact Bane wasn't that bad nor was she really trying her best to put up with him. They just somehow ended up in the same spaces more often than she would've liked. She was broken out of her thoughts however by Pepper placing a hand on her shoulder.
"Care to explain who the brother is that he's referring to?"
