Gray clouds churn and streak across the sky. The coloration gives the world a black-and-white appearance. Ambrose rests with his head against the tree trunk he's tethered to. He gazes down, allowing his attention to linger on a supple, creamy-colored calf.

The moment Helios had dragged her to his body in the cave, forcing a kiss upon her lips, Ambrose wanted nothing more than to tear him apart, limb by limb.

In that same cave, only moments earlier, he had teased Mercy about a kiss.

But not even in his wildest dreams would he have ever acted as this creature had. He has never, nor would he ever, consider forcing himself on any female. Much less, the one woman in the world he so desires to please and protect.

Mercy moves in her sleep.

She rolls onto her stomach and drags a thin blanket under her, exposing more of her leg. She mumbles in the twilight of slumber.
