Capítulo 9: Wounded Beast
Tonight was unusually cold, but Ruby wasn't the least bothered because of the pipping hot porridge in her hand.
She carefully wiped her mouth in case she drool from the temptation. Then, she scooped some of it and blew for a while before finally putting it into her mouth.
The porridge immediately melted in her mouth, bringing warmth to her entire body. The seafood was fresh and a bit spicy, but it blended perfectly well with the porridge to the point where Ruby forgot that she wasn't eating alone.
Ruby had her eyes shut. A contented smile hung on her face.
Her cheeks became rosy from the warmth, showing a slight blush.
Looking at a somewhat silly expression of Ruby, the old couples laughed in delight.
They sat at the table beside Ruby, so they could clearly see how Ruby went from doubt to happiness.
The atmosphere was especially good, coupled with delicious food, making the day end brightly.
The driver offered to send her to the hotel, but Ruby politely refused. She was in a mood to take a walk and she ate too much, so a little exercise is needed.
Ruby walked slowly on the busy and crowded streets. Her steps were light as if she were walking on clouds.
She really enjoyed the festive feeling this city brought her.
Her small face lit up along the way. It had been so long since the last time she could take a breath without the need to worry over everything.
This rare moment made Ruby truly awake that she had already been reborn in a much better condition.
She could live to her heart's content. She also wouldn't have to be afraid of being chased after by debt collectors.
It was simply wonderful.
So much so, Ruby couldn't help but start singing the hymn song of her childhood orphanage.
The hymn song was Ruby's favorite song when she was young.
It was the only source of comfort she could find amidst all the sorrow and exhaustion.
While doing a little dancing from time to time, Ruby gradually approached the hotel. She stared at the tall and mighty building with excitement. Without much thought, her speed became faster and faster, almost running.
If someone asked her why she was so eager, she would just utter, 'Because I'm happy, dumb*ss!'
However, when she passed by a dark alley, her body subconsciously froze. She didn't know why but it seemed like the defense system in her body went off, on full alert.
She could feel a pair of dangerous eyes contained with a hint of hatred and malice staring straight at her back like a beast. It was as if 'it' wanted to bore a hole through Ruby.
Her back was drenched in a cold sweat.
What is this?! She's scared!
Is this the rumored stalker? Or maybe a criminal who is active at night?!
Ruby almost cried from indignation.
Just a few minutes ago she was so happy she could fly, but now sadness was overflowing in her heart.
Ruby wanted to move but found that she couldn't really do so. Her feet were nailed to the ground and stuck like glue.
Ruby thought she didn't have any other choices besides turning back and face 'it'.
She doesn't have much hope of running away. That's why she vowed to fight till the end!
Ruby braced herself before spinning around. She used all of her strength to run as fast as the wind blowing.
Therefore Ruby who was on the verge of running forward then crashing the other party to death didn't notice the change of expressions the other party had.
At a split second where she opened her eyes to determine the direction, she abruptly stopped midway.
Her eyes widened in bewilderment.
Oh no!
It turned out to be a 'wounded beast' not a 'wild beast'.
