“No, that’s not true, but we must keep you safe from infection for another hundred days until your immune system comes back. You wouldn’t want another case of pneumonia. It may take as long as a year for you to fully recover,” Jane said firmly.
“Do I have to keep this tube thing inside of me?”
“The thing is a Hickman/Groshong catheter. Dr. Mahoney and I will use it to continue giving you your medications and to take blood for the first couple of months you are home. I will take care of flushing the catheter and the doctors will decide when it can be removed. But being home is better than being in the hospital, isn’t it?” The nurse smiled at Genevieve, and Genevieve gave her a sunny smile in return.
