Instead, she made a mental note to call Bahaar on a regular basis to check in on them. And to visit, whenever they were in the area, even if it meant making the journey by herself in her new truck.

During Dakota’s absence, she spent a lot of daylight simply sitting by one of the large front windows. It snowed pretty much the entire time they were there, and the landscape provided a lovely view. She let herself enjoy it. Once the two departed, it would be all work again. In the meantime, it was homespun furniture, wintery weather, and excellent pain meds meant for canines.
