“You wouldn’t…?”

Sean’s mind was trying to wrap around the fact that Mikael was—even playfully—threatening him with Maxim’s tiger form. He knew for a fact Maxim would do it; shift and try to threaten Sean’s wolf out. He’d go as far as hurting Sean some to get there if needed or if Mikael told him to. Sean had no doubt about that.

“Okay,” he agreed when the others said nothing, just stared him down. “But I’ll come back tonight. I’ll get hungry.” Sean got up and said bye to the kids, explained where he was going, and the little buggers—who he loved so, so much—cheered.

He wasn’t sure where his wolf had gotten stuck. It might have been where the worst of his hurt was locked inside his heart still. Sean was the alpha of his pack. Zoya had been his mate, the one who was there when Sean needed support, needed to be vulnerable for a while, just like he’d been that for her.

“Dad?” Sean heard Jude calling for him just as he stepped into the forest.
