While my personal life seemed like a three ring circus, the spotlight shone on me at work. Kimberly and the magazine’s higher ups loved my story, which translated into cold cash. The extra funds would come in handy over the long Fourth of July weekend. The holiday coincided with the 100thanniversary of my childhood church. As direct descendents of one of the founders, my family planned to make a donation to help retire the outstanding mortgage on the new building. Instead of spending on fun things, my blessings would go toward the service of the Father.

Danita continued to tease me about Neil, but I think her poking fun at my messed up situation served as a distraction for the drama going on in her life. Her husband had not contested the divorce proceedings so with a stamp, my friend rejoined the single lady club the day before I left to head to my hometown.
