Author's note: this is from Seraphina's point of view
…
I watched as wolves followed after Duke into the forest, and pride swelled in my chest at the thought that Zoe, Luca, and Ash were right behind him.
The order in which they run symbolizes hierarchy, and by allowing our adopted kids to run so close to him, Duke acknowledged them as high-ranking members of his soon-to-be pack.
I didn't recognize other wolves, but I could guess that Fynn, Bert, Vito, and Tessa were among the first ones who went after Duke.
I thought that Sergio will join them as well, but then he hurried to his home, probably to join Calista. She didn't seem to be in a good mood before the ceremony, and I guessed that he noticed.
Seeing so many wolves moving in unison was a majestic sight, and my only regret was that I couldn't join them.
I wanted to be by Duke's side all the time, and this made me feel like an outsider.
