Capítulo 59: Mai #2
"Why is this boat so much faster than that other one we were on?"
Azula sighed, "Because it was an older model with a much smaller engine. Thankfully we now are using the newest model." I looked across the deck, "Its very big." This was the ship Azula had been revealed on. It was when she was training her lightning bending.
Azula had apparently ordered the making of a new set of clothes exactly like the clothes that were edited. Lo and Li were going to do their teaching with Azula today. We had already left the dock a few days ago. I had to do a shit ton of filing for setting everything up. I was pretty sure Azula was shoving this onto me and it was someone else's job.
"Orin why don't you figure out why Mai hasn't left her room. Since I will be out here, be-careful when you comeback though." "Why?" "because I will use you as target practice."
I stared at her, "That's not funny." "Okay I might have to work on my jokes, but I will actually use you as target practice if you comeback before I am done." I rolled my eyes, "Understood Little Miss Perfect." She frowned, "I forbid you from calling me that. However I will take it as a compliment. Now go away."
I shrugged, Azula was in a mood. It was whatever it was time to work on Mai's attitude. Knocking on the door to her room I got no response. So I did it a few more times until she answered swing the door open.
"What!?" Mai looked like a mess, "Are you okay? You uh look like you were ran over."
"Thanks goodbye!" She tried to close the door, but I stuck my foot in the door. "Really?" "Azula wanted me to check on you and quite frankly you look like you need it."
"So what you are her mutt following her commands." "Rude, your in more of a mood then Azula. When we were still on land you were fine. Do you get sea sick?"
Mai just glared at me, it was a more why are you still here glare than Azula's i want to punch you glares. "I don't get sea sick" She sighed, "You aren't gonna leave until I talk will you?" "Quick on the wit, so why are you, in a mess?"
She re-opened the door and let me in. Closing it behind me, "Don't sit down." "Fair, that's fair." Showing concern had broke her down from her more mean remarks at least. Mai turned and stared directly into my eyes. "Do you really think Azula is trying to be nice? I've known her for something like 10-12 years. Even as a child she was horrible and she just decides she's gonna turn over a new leaf because of you?"
"Well if you really want to know why I will tell you?" "Please do, as I have my doubts."
"The day you came to her uh palace? The mansion she was at. I told her about the consistency of trust vs fear. Obviously you fear her right? Azula knows that, you know that, I know that. So I gave a situation in which you would betray her. Based on how you would respond when you arrived. I was proven right of course. Despite Azula being...Azula. She doesn't want to lose you or Ty Lee. So she would accept giving trust a try instead of forcing you with fear. Hence why she sent me instead of dragging you out herself."
Mai eased up and began fixing her hair in a mirror. "Why would she change because of you then?" I shrugged, "I don't fear her, I find know reason to. Yeah she could hurt me, but I could also end up killing half the fire nation by pouring arsenic in the drinking water. After all there's plenty of arsenic around the fire nation due to the volcanoes. The minerals around her would likely be mind blowing if you lot could actually use it."
"So you threatened her?" "Oh god no, I'm just giving you context on why I don't fear her. I am more likely to die by a disease or illness that is incurable than die by her hands. I can't fist fight a illness after all." "Okay so you don't fear Azula whoop-di-doo." It was my turn to glare at Mai, "I thought you were smart, if I don't fear Azula and Azula wants to be in control. How would she control something that rejects the very idea?"
Mai's eyes widened, "You are having sex with her?" I frowned, "No, but she did try to seduce me. Ultimately though she had to rely on trust. Look the point is Azula wants to be in control right? her father is currently in a higher position in control right?" Mai started to look freaked out.
"Azula's family the royal family is a mixed bag of shit. Where Ozai took power by force and sacrificed his wife in the process. So if Azula would be promised loved she didn't get from her mother. Praise she gets from her father without the cost of being less than. With all the promise of being herald as a saint. Do you think she would be satisfied with what she has?"
Mai was clearly afraid, I think I had begun to scare her in a way completely different than Azula. I would need to ease up, I had gotten a little too close. So I backed away and leaned against the wall. "It breaks down to if Azula takes the throne under the guise of fixing the failures of her father, she gets a massive amount of praise. Then if she opens her self to being more friendly she will gain support not only within the fire nation, but outside of it. Finally with a little help if the cards are managed right. The four nations will unite under a central rule, which is what Sozin's original goal was. Collecting into... well you get the idea."
There was way more than that, but it is what Azula knows or is planning for now. Mai hadn't changed stat wise. However she had definitely changed her view. I obviously couldn't say everything and much of what I said could be considered bullshit. However it got Mai to be a little more trusting. Since it fit her world view.
"Anyway I got like an hour more to talk because Azula threatened to use me as target practice if I come back onto the deck. Honestly I think she is just embarrassed." Mai was just watching me.
"You are worse then Azula, but I don't know if that is good or bad because you want to change Azula for the better. Or your worse because the fact being more manipulative and terrible than Azula, is what I thought was impossible."
"Is that a compliment?"
