Capítulo 568: CH41 (563), Police (11)

The next two days passed by rather swiftly, at least that was how I felt since I found our actions interesting enough. During these two days, Detective Monroe and I followed a few more leads that our team had gathered, and while most of them ended up being misses, mostly because the place had already been vacated, one led to the successful capture of four more mid-level criminals along with a bunch of evidence.

At the end of Giratiday's shift, I got called into Chief Junsa's office. Apparently, the Psychic Association saw it fit to send my result to Chief Junsa instead of sending it directly to me, and I could freely say I did not expect that. I honestly thought that they would either send those results to me or Detective Loneson since he was the one who organized the whole thing, but it seems that I had been wrong.

Instead, a member of the less-known and less popular version of the Junsa blueheads, who actually managed to become the Police Chief of Celadon City, ended up being the one to hand me my certificate while congratulating me on successfully gaining the credentials to work as an official Psychic Interrogator (PI).

I thanked him before putting away my new certificate. Chief Junsa informed me that now that I had the necessary credentials, I was free to use my telepathy to interrogate all offenders that we had apprehended, though I had to wait until tomorrow for that since my shift for the day was already over.

Chief Junsa praised me for my willingness to go beyond the expected and the work I had done so far. He actually snuck in some self-praise by saying that those were excellent traits to have and that they were the reason he managed to climb to his current position. I thanked him for the praise and he just smiled warmly before dismissing me.

I made my way to my dorm, before pulling out the PI certificate. Now that I had it in hand, I had to share the good news with my parents and friends, so I took a photo of the certificate and sent it to my parents as well as the chat group.

It took less than a minute for Mom to call me, and she heaped a ton of praise on me as soon as I picked up. Dad managed to get in a "congratulations son" as well at some point, and once Mom felt she had complimented me enough we talked about how it was going on our respective sides.

The whole call took nearly twenty minutes, and after we hung up, I saw that a lot of congratulatory messages had been sent to our friend's chat group, so I sent each of them a thank you. Seeing my reply a few of the ones that had been lurking, wrote back and we talked for some time until I had enough social interaction for the day and decided to tell Yu that I had to go.

The others had already stopped writing after roughly 20 minutes, but Yu had kept going turning the group chat into a private one for another 10 minutes before I chose to do a tactical retreat. Honestly, Yu was a good friend, but sometimes he talked a bit too much.

Anyway, after wishing Yu and the others a good day, I entered Utopia and appeared at my place. I then closed my eyes and did a routine inspection of Utopia, both the main and subspaces, to check if everything was in order and to see if anything interesting had happened. There were some new hatchlings among the Rattata in the main space, but I left them alone for now since I usually gave hatchlings 3 months before I checked them to see if they could be helpful or not.

Anyway, other than that, everything was as usual, so I moved on to the subspaces. I went through each subspace, leaving the fauna one for last. Everything was in order within those places, though I did note that the number of Magikarp in the Marine subspace had grown a bit too high, so it was time to take out the ones with the lowest potential.

Doing that would not only solve the overcrowding/overpopulation problem but also improve the average potential of the population, at least that was how I had managed to raise the potential average of even the sub-space Magikarp swarm to a decentish level during the last 11 or so years. The Gyarados were naturally exempted from that since their evolving to Gyarados was enough for me to keep them around regardless of their potential.

Anyway, I began to select the ones with the worst potential for removal. Thankfully I had made sure to mark all Magikarp after I had checked them at some point, so I only had to check a few whose last check-up was more than half a year ago, which reduced my workload quite a bit.

Using all my thought streams for this further reduced the time it took me to finish the selection, and less than 45 minutes later, I had singled out close to two thousand Magikarp that I then put to sleep, before turning their temporary sleep into an eternal one. Following that, I stored the Magikarp away until I needed them. There were still over 24k Magikarp after the selection process, which was more than enough to keep the population going/growing.

Anyway, I finally took a look at the fauna subspace, and everything was fine there, though one particular Pokemon caught my attention. It was no surprise that the, no doubt, recently hatched Spearow stood out from its brethren considering that it had a different coloring than them. The surprising bit was that it was not the color of a shiny Spearow, but something else.

The Spearow's basic outline still looked like that of a standard Spearow but some changes made it stand out. For example, while its head as well as tail feathers seemed to retain the standard coloring, its belly feathers were no longer beige but more of a light grey, and even though its back feathers were still black, the feathers covering its wings were not red(dish), but of a yellow color that became lighter closer to the tips.

This Spearow could be considered the first naturally conceived and born/hatched variant of Utopia. When I said naturally born, I meant without any input from my side. Well, extra input, I did not count Utopia's optimization of the newborn or its parents before him.

Regardless, Spearow's changes were more than enough for me to want to check it out immediately to see what was up with Spearow, so I did just that, and I had to say that it was definitely a pleasant surprise.

'Species: Spearow

Gender: Male

Type: Flying, Electric

Potential: Deep Blue

Stage: Stageless

(Genetic) Modifier: Electric-Variant

Abilities: Keen Eye {Intrinsic}, Sniper, Lightning Rod

Talents: None

Affinities: Flying, Electric'

Not only was Spearow an electric variant, with a rather good ability in Lightning Rod, but he also had deep blue potential from the get-go. This meant that if he decided to adhere to the training program I was going to give him once he was out of his baby/stageless phase, he could attain light aurora potential by the gold stage at the latest, which was something very welcome since one could never have enough Pokemon with that kind of potential.

The reason I was interested in him like this was some myths that I remembered, which made me want to see if there was some truth to those and if I could make use of them if that was the case. If it worked, it would be an incredible boon for my family, and if it didn't, then I would still have a strong Pokemon with incredible potential, so I won either way.

Naturally, all this hinged on whether Spearow would even want to train truly seriously or not, but my experience so far made me inclined to believe that he would. Once he agreed, he would become a reserve member like Mankey and Hypno. As for whether he would join the main team someday, that depended on his future performance.

Anyway, since I was going to move Spearow to the main space, I identified his parents as well, so that I could transfer them to the main space along with their son. Spearow was still pretty much a baby after all, and would need/want their company.

Luckily their potential was pretty good, with both having light blue potential, so I did not even mind doing it. Additionally, to ensure that Spearow had some companions, I chose 3 young female Spearows with blueish potential to fill that role.

I placed the whole group along with a fitting "small" habitat/area beside my place and then introduced them to the others. I especially made sure to tell Thor/Pikachu and Hera/Pidgeot to help Spearow if he ever asks for it. The rest of the day after that, I spent hanging out with my Pokemon.

The next day, I first met up with Detective Monroe, before the two of us directly headed to the interrogation room. We had the criminals brought to the room one by one, and each time a new criminal came in for interrogation, Detective Monroe would ask some targeted questions while I would use telepathy to read the criminal's mind for the answers along with any other related memories/information.

This way we got a much more extensive list of addresses along with the names as well as faces of any fellow criminals and higher-ups that any of the captured criminals had come in contact with. I made sure to note all that down and added sketches of the faces I saw.

At the end of our interrogation session, our whole team got busy. Actually, not only our team. The number of leads I/we got was so extensive that Detective Loneson decided to apply for help from other CID teams as well as the SPU to cover them all in the shortest time possible to not give the criminals a chance to escape once it became clear that nearly their whole operation got exposed.

Even then each team was forced to recruit some of the officers from the other departments/units to assist them in our mega-size operation. Detective Loneson had to go to Chief Junsa for this. Thankfully, the chief was more than happy to let us utilize any qualified officers who were not otherwise busy.

At the end of the day, over 16 places got raided and we apprehended over 250 people in total. Each place got cleaned out by us, with all items as well as files being bagged up as evidence and any Pokemon that were found being sent to a PokeCenter for a thorough check-up.

Unfortunately, the leader and a few others were not among the ones who got captured since they had apparently managed to escape/hide, but for now, this was a resounding success. The leader and his little group had lost nearly everything aside from their freedom, and even that was only temporary since our team was determined to capture them. According to Detective Loneson, the case would remain open until the leader was apprehended.

Nonetheless, all that would have to wait until next week since I was done for the week. There was no way I could interrogate 200 people even if I worked an extra day or two, so seeing how my shift was over I decided to leave for my prolonged weekend. The others had more than enough follow-up stuff to do until Arcday anyway, considering the number of criminals and evidence we had gotten during this operation.

Besides, I saw that reporters were starting to show up, most likely due to the mass activity of police officers, which was another good reason to vanish. I did just that after wishing Detective Monroe and Loneson good luck.

I was a tad bit worried that either of the detectives would drop my name, which would divert some of the reporters to me/the dorms, so I decided to pay Jessie in Viridian City a visit to see how she was doing. We ate dinner together and spent the rest of the evening strolling around the city.

Still, the day had to end eventually, so after wishing Jessie a good night, I went to Hope Town to sleep. I mean, it was close by, and I had no desire to return to Celadon City, at least not until Arcday.
