The two pilgrims walked the streets, taking in all the sights and sounds of the era. Dawn noticed that among all the hippies, she didn't stand out or feel like she was in costume. One man of color flashed the power sign to her, which was the upright fist. Dawn flashed it back but didn't really know what it meant.
By the time they got to Ashbury, it had become difficult to navigate through the crowd. Strange scents filled the air. It was a mixture of incense, food, and something the pilgrims had never previously smelled.
Cathy stopped to look in the window of a head shop. She beckoned Dawn to go in with her. The incense smells became very strong-the stuff was being sold in racks. Dawn looked in the glass case and saw pipes, cigarette papers, and jewelry. She laughed at some of the items such as tiny little troll dolls with hair that stood up one inch long, and stretched pop bottles.
