Today I overheard the boss talk with someone on the phone, something about his mom's birthday and to greet her for him. Also something about how he couldn't attend the party. Naturally, I thought that was odd because he could just leave the inn to us employees but when I confronted him about it he kinda brushed it off, telling me that he still needed to get me settled in, which is a complete lie because I've completely settled in. He only told me that I've settled in quite well, so it was definitely something else.
It got me curious though, why would the boss not want to attend his mom's birthday party? So when I was in the laundry room, helping out some of the employees with the laundry, I asked about the boss. Immediately the atmosphere became tense.
One of my senpais a yuki-onna told me that the boss doesn't really get along with his aunts, uncles and cousins, so he often doesn't join in on celebrations. He does still spend time with his parents, siblings and grandparents, but never with the entirety.
When I asked why he was hated, my senpai told me it was because of standing. Which translated to him not being good enough for them. Boss' family is a wealthy family full of great businessmen and women, singers, actors and whatever other top tier job a person could go into. The kids are no different, with the boss' siblings also being quite smart and talented.
Though apparently, the boss himself isn't as talented as they are, and so has been labelled a bottom feeder.
That's shit in my opinion because the boss clearly has a talent for leadership, he manages everyone in the inn really well and morale is never low here, so I have no idea how he's not good enough.
I got my chance to find out more when I found the boss chilling with a book.
I sat down with him and relaxed for a bit before I segued into making him talk about his family life.
And.. it broke my heart.
This has been happening all his life. His aunts, uncles and cousins treat him like dirt cause he can't be as good as them. What the fuck?!
It was so frustrating that I wanted to smack all of his stupid family members and crush them under my big dragon ass! But I doubt the boss would let me.
Though now I kinda understood why the boss was so calm all the time and how he could forgive any mistake he encounters.
I mean I know what it's like to be always picked on and be told you're not good enough or that you're a problem, but to have it be told you all your life and by your family no less. I'm surprised he ain't bitter about the whole thing.
But it didn't mean he wasn't affected by it. Whenever I looked at the boss, he always looked so sad. He never cries and always smiles in front of us, but I can't help but feel that his smile hides something more.
When I talked to him about his past, he didn't get mad at me, he was so calm as if our conversation was something he'd already done before.
Listening to him was hard as well.
I really want to rat his family out, but the boss said that doing that will hurt everyone in his family. His name apparently held a lot of power and one scandal can ruin lifetimes worth of work and he didn't want to be the reason for that.
So for all his life the boss just sucked it up and pressed on. Even now.
He's a kind guy, Kyrell.
I hope one day someone or something will reward him.
Messages will be in conversations.
