"Why else did you like him?" Roman asked.
Penelope sighed. Talking to him but not him about this was weird yet oddly cathartic. She may as well get it all out now since tonight had upset her already. There was no point holding back.
"He was easy to talk to and we had a lot of fun together. I had never connected with anyone else the way I did with him. But that was only because I had a similar sense of humor to the one he loved.
"We never would have been together at all if I wasn't so much like her. He never would have looked at me and I never would have stupidly fallen for someone I shouldn't have. It hurts being around you partly because I'm reminded of how dumb I was."
"I don't think you were stupid," he said quietly. "You can't help who you fall in love with."
