If Leo did not turn out to be powerful, then Luciana would have used her powers on them but they were many and she was the only one with Esme in an unconscious state. Hence, their deaths were inevitable today. 

''You don't even pity them…'' Cardan clicked his tongue, ''And I like it,'' he mumbled under his breath in a voice so soft that she missed it. 

Luciana had very little use for things like pity and conscience.

''There are people I care about and there are people who don't exist in my world. Unfortunately, they happened to be the latter.''

''Which one am I?" Cardan asked, stepping towards her.

Luciana paused for a moment as she glanced at his face, ''Why am I here in this room?'' her disinterest to answer his question was apparent.

Cardan sighed, ''My room is right next to your friend's so rather than staying far away from her, I thought you would like to stay here.''
