Vertigo sneers, kicking at her side before I can scramble over to her, "Yes, look at her, look at the protector you chose. Dead."

His voice stings through a haze of screaming, Rey. Looking over I catch him trying not to spill over, his mouth and body smeared with stomach contents as he struggles to lift even a simple pistol and aim.

Vertigo's powers double over and we're both back on our sides. He pulls out a gun from his coat and fires. 

"Useless efforts, you see now don't you, boy? You were bound to fall the moment you thought to stand against me. Now then, the time to choose right has passed, you must be in regret now because this is the time to die." 

He raises the weapon, the barrel steaming from the earlier shot and levels it at me. My head rolls to the side, meeting Fawn, still eyes open and devoid of life, blood pouring from the stab wound in her side and her lips stained.
