Capítulo 40: Chapter 40: I Want To Say Something

Amethyst was pulled out of the venue and into the car by Slate without saying a word. She could only follow him because the even they came here for was already over and she does not need to stay any longer.

After getting in the car, Slate silently drove towards Minesview, Hotel Elizabeth was not far from their place but Minesview was the opposite of where their place is if you are coming from the hotel.

She looked at him but didn't ask, he must have had something else he needs to do.

Instead, Slate stopped in a convenience store and alighted without saying a word, she wanted to alight but her knees are already shaking, the shock of everything that happened must have come to her only now that she had finally relaxed.

She couldn't help but sigh, "In the end, I almost fall on another pool. And the worst it was once again caused by my sister. Such a sad life it is that I am having."

"Stop muttering to yourself and drink this. Eat this as well because you didn't touch any food in the event."

She didn't realize that Slate has returned until he spoke and the water and bread was placed right in front of her.

"Thank you," was what she said.

She could feel that she really needed that water right now.

After she finished half of the battle, she noticed that Slate was staring at her.

"What is it? Is there something on my face?"

"Eat, your face is still pale, we can't go home with you looking like that or else my sister would worry again," he gestured for the bread before he too drank his water.

"I want some coffee," she blurted.

He looked at her with furrowed brows.

"I want to say something," she then added with an uncertain smile.

"You don't have to tell if you still couldn't," he replied.

Amethyst shook her head, "I really want to bring it out after what happened today."

He stared at her before he nodded his head, there are so few coffee shops that are 24 hours open and so they had to drive around until they found one.

It was not in the city center and the ambiance was great, they can have a conversation without too much people who can hear them.

After alighting, she suddenly shivered at the coldness of the night. She had forgotten to bring a coat or something.

Slate took off his and placed it on her shoulder, "Your knees, are they okay? Can you walk?"

"Oh," that's when she remembered that she indeed was trembling a while ago after everything that had happened.

She subconsciously looked down, "I think so, I am okay now. Better after drinking some water."

He nodded his head before he once again extended his arm for her to hold unto.

She was wearing heels and despite it no longer trembling, her knees still felt weak.

She accepted his offer and they walked in.

Their clothes were too formal for a simple coffee time that they still caught the attention of some of the customers and the crew.

Despite her minimal make up, Amethyst was still a beauty. Slate was no longer a question for he actually looks like a model.

He led her to a seat in the corner before taking their order, it didn't take long for it to arrive and for them to enjoy it.

She took a sip of the coffee brought to her before taking a deep breath.

"I was the neglected child," she started.

Slate silently listened.

"She was the favorite. No matter what she do, good or bad, it was okay. They are proud. Everything I do..."

She shook her head with a sad smile, "Everything was a mistake."

"There was no particular reason or any special reason... They just don't like me. I tried everything but nothing could change that and the best proof was what happened back when we were eight years old."

She once again smiled as she slowly told him the story.

Both of them were at the edge of the pool, she could no longer remember what they were fighting about but they were fighting. At some point it became physical.

And the next thing they knew, both of them were falling into the water. it was in the deep part and both of them couldn't swim.

They struggled and struggled until their parents noticed them.

the place wasn't packed and there are very few people who were there on that day, some were even having their lunch that the pool was actually empty.

Their parents jumped into the water and saved Emerald.

Amethyst was first relieved when she saw them, but dread filled her heart when once they got Emerald they started going for the edge of the pool.

They had completely ignored her.

So, she kept struggling until the lifeguard noticed her...

And she was saved.

"I was saved but it felt like I wasn't. my heart was shattered in pieces. And that was when I became an introverted person, seeing them was painful enough for an 8-year-old like me because after they were sure that she was fine and I was brought close to them they had berated me. they got mad and even hit me. It was my fault they said, and if something were to happen to her, they would blame me for the rest of their lives."

She smiled bitterly, "To say such words to your young child was enough to hurt them but it wasn't enough for them. Because after that day, they became even more vicious towards me. They neglected me even more that I had to fend for myself for quite some time."

He handed her a handkerchief because a tear had already dropped from her eyes. She accepted it with a smile and sniffed as she wiped her cheek.

"Upon reaching high school I started having some part time and then my passion for writing helped me a lot when I started uploading it in an online platform. I managed to get in college because it was also my dream to have my own bookstore. I did everything by myself, had used the dorms because I really could no longer stay in that house. After graduation, I ended up returning despite them not noticing whether I am gone or not."

Slate had a divorced parents but despite them not being around, they never showed their dislike towards them. They were just never there and for Slate that is better than what Amethyst had experienced.

"I already told you about how I decided to finally stand up and leave right? How they said that I made them proud for the very first time when Emerald took my identity as Astral."

Slate nodded his head.

"If that is what they want then I'd rather not make them proud. If they treat me as someone who must do everything for my sister then I'd rather be someone else. Someone unrelated to them."

"And you did the right thing. You did a great job, Amethyst."

She stared at him after he said this.

"You did a great job for living until now."

Tears welled up.

"I did?" she asked.

Slate smiled.

Not an imperceptible one.

Not a half one.

But a warm genuine smile.

"You did a wonderful job of living your life."
