Smile caused by the unpleasantness and is the cure for this unpleasantness.

The reason for my smile in response to a negative event was, first of all, because of a mistake I had made not for the first time, which naturally led me to the same result as always. The only difference was that I smiled involuntarily, realizing the mistake I had made, and most importantly, I was not trying to blame anyone or blame anything past myself, perhaps for the first time in my life. That's what made me smile I suppose.
