Ayala remembered the words Hope had said to her sadly after the maid told her what had happened and why she hadn't gotten her hands on the note. She seemed to be referring to something else rather than the failed mission.

Those words haunted Ayala now. The sadness in Hope's voice had penetrated her soul, and she knew it came from the pain of never seeing Lord Springwood again. A similar kind of sorrow Ayala was feeling right now. Two days had passed since the tea incident, and she and Terix did not exchange a word, even though they were still sleeping in the same room.
