Capítulo 22: Attend The Party
In her room, Li Ruyan and Min Yue were staring at each other, gauging the other party's reaction or expression.
Li Ruyan's eyes noticed that Min Yue was clenching his fists. This was a sign that his anger was about to resurface.
She debated whether to comfort him. She always flocked to his side to calm him everytime she saw this and ever so quickly, that boiling, hot anger he was feeling would disappear and evaporate like hot air whenever she spoke to him.
She was aware that her touch and presence were like magic to him, a cure if one were to describe it.
While her heart was hurt, when it came to him, no matter what, she still cared for him.
It was stupid of her but she still calmly walked over. She placed a hand over his fists and gently guided him to the kitchen. His stiff shoulders relaxed as he obediently followed her without a word, his eyes gazing at her.
He almost looked like a puppy who had its eyes on its owner.
She made him sit down on a chair. She then poured him a glass of warm water and handed it to him. He accepted her offer and took a drink.
One of her hands that was resting on the table was held tightly by him. He did not seem like he was planning on letting go. Li Ruyan felt the same, she did not want to let go.
She really did not want to.
But eventually, she will have to.
She watched as he slowly relaxed. It was as if the anger he felt earlier were nothing but a figment of her imagination.
He gazed at her with a soft light in his eyes. If PA Ren were to see this, he would shake his head and hide a hole.
Li Ruyan who saw this only felt pain in her heart. She wanted answers. She wanted a reason. She wanted him to stay and tell her that she was his one and only.
But what for? It was pointless now so she said something else and steeled her heart.
"Min Yue, it is already thirty minutes past seven. Tonight is CEO Yang's birthday party. Tonight is his 56th birthday if I am not mistaken." She reminded him, telling him that he had an appointment for tonight.
It was also her way of kicking him out of her apartment. While she said that she would trust him, this did not mean that she would be able to ignore the things that had happened.
Most of all...
CEO Yang.
He was an important business figure that could not be overlooked.
While Li Ruyan did not mind showing her attitude towards that person because the other party was just as equally rude and even called her names, she was still smart enough to figure that if Min Yue was showing an amicable attitude towards that person, it must be because he was planning something against that man.
She did not know the whole truth but since Min Yue has told her that there was more to his mother and sister's deaths, Li Ruyan was determined to uncover the truth.
Once he leaves her apartment, the first thing she would do is to call a private investigator and find out the truth for herself.
Li Ruyan did not want to quickly give up the man she loves. She was still hoping and wishing that they could be together.
That was how undeniably stupid and naïve she was. And this was also how much she loves him, to the point that she was willing to dig out the whole truth, no matter how painful it would be.
Tonight, she would not be able to sleep easily again. Tonight, she would search for the truth of the past.
However...
"You need to attend the party."
"...."
"Wei Ren is outside. I'll have him bring your dress and jewelry set so you can get change."
"Why do I.."
"Please... just come."
"Yue..." Li Ruyan said with disbelief in her eyes.
Shock. Surprise. Then hurt. These were the things that she felt when he said that.
For another woman, he was willing to beg her.
Min Yue's tall figure stood up, his gaze lingering on her form before he disappeared from the kitchen. The steady sound of his footsteps became faint until his silhouette left her apartment, leaving her alone.
She felt cold.
For a moment, she debated whether the things he told her a while ago were lip service and that she was simply too blind to see it.
Her hands trembled beside her. She raised them, closed and opened them repeatedly to get them to stop shaking. Only after a minute or two did they stopped.
It was then that PA Ren knocked on the door to her kitchen and cleared his throat, catching Li Ruyan's attention.
She brought her hands down.
"Miss Li, the CEO bought this for you. He would like to see you wear it for tonight." PA Ren told her, looking embarrassed while looking at her. Maybe it was because he could still not forget the fact that Li Ruyan had chosen him as a target and even attempted to flirt with him.
And while she was doing it to slight his boss, PA Ren who still wanted to live as old as 99 years old did not want to end up in a skewer just because Miss Li flirted with him. The worst part was that she held his hand and touched his arm.
Remembering that, PA Ren became even more embarrassed and scared for his life. He quickly did as he was told, leaving the box of items on Li Ruyan.
"Miss Li, the CEO went ahead." to pick up Miss Yang. He did not have a death wish so he did not tell Miss Li about the last part.
" I will wait for you outside. I will be the one to drive you to the venue. If Miss Li needs anything, please feel free to tell me. The CEO does not want you to feel inconvenienced."
Li Ruyan did not say anything.
PA Ren left and hurriedly got out. He was not about to stay too long in Miss Li's apartment, otherwise, the CEO would throw a fit and assign him another hard task that would make him lose sleep.
When she was alone, Li Ruyan opened the box and took a quick look at the contents inside.
She raised the diamond necklace and inspected it. With this kind of craftsmanship and the quality of the diamond, it probably cost a few thousand yuan. She did the same to the diamond earrings then to the diamond bracelet. She also inspected the white dress in the box.
The texture of the cloth was soft to touch.
For a brief second, she contemplated whether she should wear it or not.
