Capítulo 26: What Now?!
They are both muted. This is the only way I can explain this. No matter what they do none of them manages to make any sound.
This is eerie, to say the least. These huge creatures being so silent.
This is a serious issue. What the hell are they going to do? Will it turn off by itself automatically? Do I have to find a way to reverse engineer a spell to give them back their voice?
We should probably preserve the current runes I drew and …. too late. In their panic, they moved around enough to remove any trace of it. The first rule of an accident scene is don't move stuff wantonly!
RIP. What now?! I can see the sheer horror on the face of the creatures. Then the bear seems to realize something. He starts thinking hard for a moment. Then blossoms a huge grin on his face.
Let me guess he just noticed how much that would help him in hiding.
What about the tiger? He is slowly calming down too. The opposite of the bear that is getting so excited he just looks silly now.
The latter is now repeatedly jumping around heavily, creating craters all over the place. Silent ones. This would be a horrible way to go. Flattened into meat paste by some bear jumping on you. Silently too.
Okay, I can see a few pros to such a spell.
1. It could be used on allies for stealth missions.
2. It could be used on enemies to disrupt them. What if you cast that on some mage chanting, or some commander barking orders, or even a bard uplifting the morale of its allies.
3. It could be used to start a professional mime troop. You can be sure that no matter what they won't ever speak.
4. Could also use that spell for awesome practical jokes. Well, I would need to master it first. Turning someone mute for all his life sounds horrible.
How am I supposed to solve the issue now? I would usually ask my two companions for advice, but that is out of the question. With their paws, sign language would be hard too. The easiest would be to communicate through writing.
I try writing on the ground: do you understand this? I look at them inquisitively, but no special reaction. We can somehow communicate verbally but writing is a no-go.
I'm still not sure if these creatures are speaking English or there is some kind of translation magic active in this world at all times or something.
How powerful would one have to be in order to cast a worldwide spell? If I could, I would make it so every time someone talks about me cheers would be heard.
Right, what was even my old name? It feels like an eternity. It was... There are more pressing issues. Let me see. I think for a while until I finally realize something!
I don't know, at all! Thinking about it is completely useless. Better look for help!
[OLD GHOST! OLD GHOST!]
I scream and I keep screaming until I hear an annoyed voice.
"What do you want!?"
[So here is the situation both the bear and the tiger are muted.]
"Muted?"
[They cannot make any sound.]
He looks at them both for a while and then.
"HAHAHAHAHAHA. This is the best thing ever! Ah, this is great!"
What?!
[Seriously, what am I supposed to do to turn them back?]
I do take a few minutes to explain everything in detail. He thinks a while and then he looks at me before nodding assuredly.
"I don't know…!"
That's my line!
"…. but I might know someone that can help."

"Alright, you know the small pond by on the north side? Go there and meet the one that calls herself the siren. Once you find her, she might very well be able to give you a hint on how to solve the problem. On that note, I'll leave take care!"
So go north, is it? Also, a small pond. Wait a minute.
[Old ghost wait, where is the north?!]
I am not getting any answer. This is bad what will I … I feel something touching my shoulder. The tiger is there and pointing toward the horizon.
Right, these guys are still here. Leading the way shouldn't be an issue. ¸ In my panic, I kinda forgot about it.
Well here goes nothing. I follow them closely.
I know this situation is serious, but I am getting excited. Have you ever wondered what a siren would look like? There are old tales depicting them as monsters, but most recent ones would agree on a super cute appearance.
You know the one with a resplendent fish scaly tail and the higher body of a voluptuous woman. They would then lure the sailors with their songs. In the darkest versions, the goal is to drown them for whatever reason.
Still, this doesn't make much sense if you ask me. There should be plenty of food already in the sea for them not to bother hunting humans. It could be for wealth too, but that would be kinda pointless if you cannot spend the gold you get.
Also, most of the human contraptions become useless in water, except if it was specially made with that specification in mind.
In lighter stories, the sirens simply want to captivate their audience for fun. While that too can turn dark with sailors staying there too long and running out of fresh water, I doubt this could be a problem in a pond literally made of it.
The ghost wouldn't send me someplace dangerous, so I believe I'll be fine. I wonder how beautiful she will be. I wonder how touching her singing will be. I wonder how much she will do justice to the myths.
We quickly reach a …pond?! Did he call this a pond? This is obviously a lake at least! Almost the size of a sea!
How did I not see that from the air when I was at the top of Yggdrasil?! Also, it almost seems like it popped out of nowhere.
I quickly stop thinking about that when I notice something shine under the sun. It seems to be some rainbow-looking tail! An extremely beautiful one.
[Is this the siren?]
My companions nod in agreement.
As it emerges from the water, I am left breathless.
I cannot believe my eyes!
