"He? I don't know him," Gim Da shrugged, looking nonchalant. "He just started coming with the young miss last week. It's obvious he's drooling over her. What the rich and powerful do isn't our business. That's why I act respectful when they show up."
Gah Soo laughed, "That woman doesn't give a damn about him. He's like a lapdog, following her everywhere."
Joon-won, intrigued and cautious, asked, "Do you know their names, Boss?"
Gim Da shook his head. "No, they've never told me their names. They only mentioned being students at Arios Drama University, same major as you. They're in their second year, so they're your direct seniors. Be careful, Joon-won. I don't know why that girl asked about you, but it doesn't seem like that guy will take your attitude quietly."
Joon-won nodded, mulling over the warning as he got back to work. The boss excused himself, and the store settled back into its usual rhythm. After finishing his shift, Joon-won made his way to his class. The drama practice was moving faster than the previous days, nearing his scene. He slipped into his seat beside Jung-hwa, who was engrossed in her script.
"You don't have work tomorrow, do you?" she asked, glancing up.
Joon-won shook his head, flipping through his script. "Nope, I'm off."
"Good. We could use some extra practice before the exam," she said, before diving back into her lines.
Called up for his scene, Joon-won completed both parts quickly. The actors had become more comfortable, and their interactions flowed better. Jung-hwa had adapted well, seamlessly integrating into the group dynamics.
As the practice wrapped up, Joon-won turned to Jung-hwa. "Are you going home this summer?"
She looked surprised by the question but nodded. "Yeah, I'm going back for the first three weeks of our two-month holiday. My dad insisted. Why do you ask? Did you change your plans?"
Joon-won shook his head, "No, I'm staying here. I might need some help after you go. That's why I asked."
"What kind of help?" she inquired, her curiosity piqued. "I'll be mostly free, so it should be fine."
"Not sure yet. I'll let you know if it comes up," Joon-won replied, keeping the details vague. He didn't want to disclose his family concerns. If needed help he would definitely ask Jung-hwa as the past few days daily interactions with her gave him a solid understanding of her character. It might help ease the relation ship between him and Yun-hee if someone other than him spoke to her.
Their conversation ended, and Joon-won decided to head to the library instead of going home. His body ached from the previous day's exertion, and he needed a break. The library would be a good place to rest and expand his knowledge about this world.
Entering the library, he greeted the same middle-aged woman behind the counter, signed in, and headed for the world history section. Selecting a promising-looking book, he settled into a quiet corner and began to read. The hours passed quickly, the sun setting as he immersed himself in the book's detailed account of global events.
Emerging from the library at dusk, Joon-won was greeted by the sight of the young miss from the store, standing beside a sleek, expensive car. His heart sank; he had hoped to avoid her. Keeping his head down, he tried to walk past without drawing attention.
But the young miss had already spotted him. A smile curved her lips as she slid into the driver's seat and rolled down the window. "Need a ride home?" she asked, her tone light and playful. Her blonde hair framed a face that was undeniably beautiful, her blue eyes sparkling with mischief.
Joon-won cursed his luck under his breath. Of all the people to run into, why her? He forced a polite smile and replied, "No, thank you. I'm fine walking. Please go on with your day."
Her charm was evident as she continued, "Hah! What a cocky boy. Do you know you're the first man I've invited into my car? Doesn't that make you curious?"
Joon-won's eyes hardened. He didn't want to get involved with her. Her beauty might have captivated many, but it only made him more wary. "Why would I know or care who's been in your car? This is the first time I've seen you. Just because you're used to everyone falling at your feet doesn't mean I will. Now, leave me alone, or I'll call the police."
Her eyebrows shot up, and she laughed, clearly amused. "You're different. Most guys would jump at the chance. What's your name?"
"None of your business," Joon-won shot back, quickening his pace.
