Capítulo 149: A Moment Of Vacillation 1

****

The Capital, Nalazi.

The city was entering a state of emergency lockdown, forcing everybody to lock their doors and head towards the city-wide shelter at various direction in the city. There were four city-wide safe zone shelter in the entire city, it was made like this so that each shelter wouldn't just be cramped but can also be reached easily.

People were running for their lives, trying to take one more step without being run over by fellow humans, Demonic Fireballs or Demonically Possessed creatures whose only aim was to tear every living person limb by limb until nothing was left of them.

The City Hunter's Guild, Adventurers Guild and Mercenary Guild were tasked to fend off every threat posed to the life of the citizens. All those still ranked D, E, and F were left inside the city while those from rank C, B, and A were sent to the city wall to defend against an even bigger threat. The only S rank Hunter also a Sixth-level Elemental Swordsman was out on a mission.

Meanwhile, while all this was transpiring a young woman in dirty clothes grabbed a stray horse and quickly made her way towards a different direction than the masses. This was of course no other person than Vivi. She was rushing towards the mansion to gather some men back to the now demolished Lion's Beard Auction House to save the people that she could.

While she kept speeding forward unknown to her a black wormhole would materialize every one hundred metres she crosses only to show the silhouette of a small body. The features unknown, as the face and body was hazy, shrouded in mysterious blackness, nothing like the blackness found in the battlefield over the wall. It was more profound and mystic.

Vivi commanded her soldiers that remained in the mansion to accompany the coachmen back to the Auction House. On arrival they could see a lot of luxurious wagons that belonged to all those powerful and rich people, they were parked while some were already turned over due to one reason or the other.

Despite the commotion the horses couldn't run away when they were strung to a heavy wagon in a tight place.

"Go inside and bring out everyone that we've gathered so far into this, this and this wagon, then take them back to the mansion for immediate treatment!" Vivi barked orders to every able and fit person around.

Vivi gave out a breath of relief when she saw people helping out one way or the other. Even when someone was helping himself selfishly to either bring out a friend or relative, it could be considered helping the rest to reduce the work load on them. Cries can be heard as the loss of a close one was inevitable and painful.

Seeing the men, women and youths shedding tears made Vivi feel stiff in her chest as though she was meant to... to... do something, but she didn't know what. One thing was for sure, she knew it should be something close to what these grieving people are doing. Since she had no idea what that feeling was she threw it at the back of her head.

In truth, it was Ben's Charm spell, Calm, that forced every negative emotion to be locked, if so to say, in the pit of her belly. Making her to not know her pain.

Explosion after explosion could be heard from time to time as everybody that was saved boarded a wagon and was driven by a coachman from Ben's mansion. How long has it been, two hours, five, ten or perhaps a whole day. No one knew. It has just been so long and everyone wanted to have some rest.

Death was everywhere. Cries even more louder.

The roads was filled with chaos!

"It's going to be okay. It's going to be okay..." a young man that was brought to the Auction House for the first time together with his father kept saying to himself. It was also going to be the last time he'll be seeing his father.

"Everybody, calm down! The Hunters all over the city are trying to resolve whatever is causing this!" Vivi said encouraging everyone inside the wagon. But she was also saying generally to herself.

Vivi, the blind elf girl they bought in the auction and about ten other people were seated on the ground of the wagon as it was being drawn by powerful luxurious horses. Those luxurious wagons wouldn't have been able to accommodate this number of people if they still had their seats and other decorations in them, so the men Vivi brought and those still fit took them out and even opened the back of the carriage.

"*Cough* *Cough* Where... where am I?" a slightly weak voice came from inside the carriage filled with confusion.

When the voice was heard it gave quite a few people a scare. Seeing that it was just someone that had woken up they calmed down. Vivi looked over at who it was and saw that she kind of knew this person... well, not in person but she has seen her.

"Calm down, you need to stay still. You seem to be badly hurt in different places." Vivi rushed forward to pacify the confused lady.

"Who are you people?" Evelyn asked, her head a bit still groggy from a concussion.

"We are people that are going to bring you to safety. Try not to move a..."

"What the hell is that?" a middle aged man with brown hair and aristocratic clothes who lost his left hand to the explosion shouted.

He realized the woman that had woken up wasn't an important figure so he didn't bother to follow up on their discussion, but when he peered out the back he had no choice but scream when he saw the small sea of ashly pale individuals with dead eyes all scrambling towards their speeding carriages with barring teeth.

As they all turned round to look outside fear washed over them. Every single Possessed was filled with hatred and a hint of savagery. More than fifty deformed humanly-shaped creatures were racing towards the speeding carriage. They powerfully jumped fallen buildings, boulders, obstructions, even running on all fours just to gain momentum.

The last carriage sent a message through one of the horsemen acting as escorts to the other carriages telling them to spread out and use different routes to head towards their main destination. It was true that staying close together would only make them easy targets for these Demonically Possessed creatures.

Vivi knew these things were only after their lives, knowing that Ben entrusted these people to her she felt obligated to do something... to guard. Will throwing herself off the carriage be of any significance? No, but at the same time, yes.

Throwing herself off the carriage would no doubt be considered stupid since no one would want to throw away their lives especially when you won't be remembered. Even if you were, you'd be remembered for doing something entirely stupid in the eyes of people, the very same people you tried saving.

It wasn't worth it!

Then again, some'd say it was of some significance. She sacrificed her life to save many influential individuals and a few bright futures of the state and county. She would at most buy them a little more time.

Logically? No.

Morally? Yes.

Then why was there this conflicting feeling within herself? The pain in her heart didn't let her jump off the carriage while her mind wanted to.

Luckily she didn't have to take any tough discission. As she kept contemplating a lilac coloured streak of lightning passed just by her neck towards the scary looking creatures charging at them. The kinetic energy made Vivi's hair to rise up all over her body.

Abruptly seeing the thin streak of lightning suddenly charge out from inside their escape vehicle startled every person inside. They all turned to look back to see who it was that had cast a spell. It was none other than Evelyn. Back at the Auction House she was the who stood up against those in the VIP section for an item while sitting in the regulars section.

"You need to move your head a little bit farther." the woman in a purple dress said with a smile. Her clothes were torn with dirt all around and some blood stained her head. But people will still say she was a beauty to behold even in her current state.

Vivi moved a little bit more out of the way to give Evelyn some space. Evelyn unleashed Lightning-type spells onto their chasers charring them wholly black before they dropped dead. Fifteen Lightning-type spells were cast but thankfully it eradicated the group of Possessed letting those in the carriage breath out in relief.

The people in the carriage all looked at Evelyn with eyes of awe and adoration. It wasn't everyday one would see a Spellcaster. They all gave her their thanks and expressed they're astonishments in her magic.

Now that they were all safe on the road everybody calmed down. It didn't take long before they will reach the mansion. However, they celebrated to earlier. More Possessed creatures were coming and that was when the crystals Ben handed Vivi can in handy.

"Here, I was told someone would need this. And it seems you are the one." Vivi said handing over a small pouch with five purple crystals in it.
