There was a calmness in Su Ning's voice that made Gu YuChen's ears perk up instinctively. It was as if a part of him knew that if he let the girl speak first, he would regret it immensely.

"NingNing, please?" Gu YuChen pleaded and Su Ning nodded to let the young man speak first.

"I was wrong. The reason I did it behind your back, I was worried that something would happen to you again," he explained anxiously.

"What do you mean?" Su Ning asked sharply.

"It wasn't just Qing Mei who wanted to harm you. I needed to protect you. So I had to do it. I'm sorry," Gu YuChen explained with alacrity.

"Gu YuChen! You're not making sense. What are you talking about?" Su Ning demanded not realizing she had dropped honorifics when addressing the young man.
