Capítulo 38: Chapter 38: New Friends
The week Gu YuChen was supposed to leave for the UK, Su Ning realized that he had become inexplicably 'sticky.' It was currently February 20XX and Su Ning had just completed a semester of her sophomore year in senior high.

She had become quite close with QIn Rong whom she dubs as her "external brain" and a few kids from other noble families. In particular, Su Ning became good friends with Song Yu, a tall pale handsome bespectacled lad who came from a family of prominent artists. Song Yu is kind and well mannered and often has a trail of besotted girls following him from the art room. Anyways, Song Yu is nice because he also plays games quite well and is able to carry Su Ning through several levels of Rose Wars.
Of course aside from Song Yu, there was also Zhang Wei and Wang Lei both were 2nd sons from noble families in A City and were a pair of attractive fun loving 16 year olds who do not take things too seriously. They love to play wherever they get the chance and are not unnecessarily competitive. These were the types of people Su Ning likes to get along with. Though many people in M Academy treat her with civility, she is aware that this is only done under the influence of Lin JinYan and Gu YuChen. It's not like these people particularly wanted to befriend her. However, the trio Song Yu, Zhang Wei and Wang Lei had treated her kindly ever upon their first meeting on her birthday and even when the 'two little big bosses' were not present. If she had to think about it, WeiWei and Xiao Lei were like mischievous little brothers and Song Yu was the more mature and amiable older brother.
Author's note: Su Ning refers to Lin JinYan and Gu YuChen as little big bosses.
Unlike in Chang Yue, most of Su Ning's good friends in M Academy were male. She never understood why she was unable to make close female friends in this school and voiced this out at lunch one day. She was seated in one of the tables at M Academy's private cafeteria - only accessible to students enrolled in the special class. Su Ning typically ate with Song Yu, Zhang Wei and Wang Lei during lunch.
She had invited Qin Rong to eat with them at the beginning of the school year but was strangely rejected by the latter. Oddly enough, Qin Rong however didn't mind joining Su Ning for class projects and study sessions at the library. 'Maybe he doesn't want to be seen as too close to me, bah. After all lunch is a more private affair, you typically want to spend it with your own clique. Hehe I am probably not smart enough to be in Qin Rong's circle of friends.' Su Ning thought to herself.
How these two happy go lucky boys Zhang Wei and Wang Lei got into the special class... Su Ning was not sure of herself. "It's a trade secret." said Xiao Lei with a smile. "I'd tell you but I have to kill you." WeiWei had jovially answered, to which Su Ning just responded with a shrug and a blank look. 'If you don't want to say then don't say, beh." Su Ning thought as she played her mobile game. "By the way, don't you feel it's odd that I am unable to make friends with other girls in our class?" Su Ning curiously asked. WeiWei had swiped one hotdog from her plate while Xiao Lei had taken a bite of her french toast. "Yah! You both have enough money to buy your own food! Stop eating mine. Or I'll smack you!" Su Ning had swatted at them feeling crossed.
"Hahhaaha Who would be scared of being smacked by you?" WeiWei had cheekily responded. Meanwhile Song Yu who had been quietly eating his meal regarded Su Ning's previous question, "It doesn't seem odd though." "Ah? You don't think it's weird?" Su Ning asked as she pushed Xiao Lei's head who was trying to take another bite of her toast. "Mhmm, it's not weird at all." WeiWei nodded as he drank Su Ning's orange juice.
"... You guys are buying me lunch tomorrow." Su Ning stared at the pair with narrowed eyes before continuing "Okay speak!" "NingNing is so cold. I just wanted to eat breakfast food for lunch today." Xiao Lei whined. "Well, there is a large proportion of female students at M Academy aiming for Gu YuChen and Lin JinYan. Both of whom you share a close relationship with, these girls are unlikely to believe that your relationship is purely platonic considering you are not related by blood at all. And, there is also the matter of the large economic disparity between your families. So, a logical conclusion would be that there is some sort of 'sponsorship' afoot or you have successfully seduced the 2 most sought after males at M Academy." Song Yu kindly explained.
"..." Su Ning didn't know whether to laugh or cry. She was only 16 in this life okay? What kind of thoughts go on in these kids' heads at such a young age? "Also, NingNing you are prettier than most of the girls in our school. Isn't it normal they would feel threatened by you?" WeiWei asked, poking Su Ning's cheek.
"En. For people like us, it's not uncommon to have our families begin scouting for fiances' at our age. The most sought after connection would be the Lin Family and Gu Family. The girls probably think you are in the way, bah." Xiao Lei also explained.
"Well those things don't matter to us. We won't be inheriting our families' business anyway, right Ah-Lei?" WeiWei chattered on. "Mhmmhmm!" Xiao Lei nodded and nudged Su Ning consolingly. Su Ning just turned to Song Yu with a slightly resigned look. "So I guess I should be thankful you guys still want to hangout with me? Otherwise, I would be an outcast…" "Not necessarily," Song Yu answered calmly "You are the least annoying girl I know and you take art class seriously despite lacking any sort of talent for art. You are a pretty good friend to have."
"Yu-ge, you don't have to specifically mention my lack of talent in art. But thank you. I am glad you are not friends with me out of pity." Su Ning explained wryly. "Remember when you guys are big bosses in the future, you need to hire me at your company! I don't mind entering as a parachute!" Su Ning mentioned changing the topic.
Author's Note: Parachute is another term for nepotism.
"Well I don't know, I am not sure I want to actively manage a business. It would be too troublesome." answered Zhang Wei. "Unfortunately, you are ill-equipped to work at an art house so I have to decline that request." Song Yu answered straightforwardly. "Mmmm, It will be annoying but I will think about it." Wang Lei answered, not rejecting her outright. 'These heartless kids. Well it's too early on. They will probably change their minds. I doubt they can spend their entire life playing.' Su Ning decided.
"How could you guys treat me this way. Anyways, You two still owe me lunch for tomorrow. I gotta head out first, JinYan-ge wants to meet before afternoon classes." The pretty girl trotted away and once she was out of ear shot Zhang Wei couldn't help but lament.
"Hmm, even if NingNing doesn't like Lin JinYan or Gu YuChen that way…I simply cannot see her having a future not entangled with them. I feel sorry for her." (Zhang Wei)
"Psychotic super geniuses with a crazy obsession for one girl." (Wang Lei)
"You should both be careful with your words. For your own sakes." (Song Yu)
"I know I know. But NingNing is a nice girl. To get involved with those two...Aii" (Zhang Wei)

Currently Su Ning who had been washing the dishes and reminiscing about her buddies at M Academy, chuckled to herself, "Who knows those kids might really be her employers in the future. Fufu." thought Su Ning happily before giving a start as she felt a pair of familiar eyes on her.
She turned around with a nervous smile, "YuChen-gege…"
