In a luxury apartment by M Academy, Su Ning lay on her bed while checking the performance of her index funds. Father Su had helped her open an investment account when she had expressed interest in investing for early retirement. Satisfied with her portfolio performance, she proceeded to text Lin Miao and Li Youqing in the group chat to invite them to Lin JinYan's summer villa for her birthday.
**Group Chat**
[NingNing_Star]: QingQing, MiaoMiao~ My birthday is coming soon. Want to celebrate together? ❤(ˆ‿ˆԅ)
[KittyMiao]: Of course! ~(˘▾˘~)
[Qing^U^Qing]: My NingNing! (ɔ˘ ³(ˆ◡ˆc) Yes! What do you have planned?
[NingNing_Star]: Lin JinYan wanted us to come and play in his villa at H city. ʕ•́ᴥ•̀ʔっ
[Qing^U^Qing]: Oh my god! THE Lin JinYan wants to take us to play together?! THE Lin JinYan?!⊙_☉
[KittyMiao]: This sounds a bit fancy for a 15th birthday. (⊙.⊙(◉̃_᷅◉᷅)⊙.⊙)
[NingNing_Star]: Hahah that's what I said as well. But he insists on celebrating it there. So… would you come with me?≧◔◡◔≦
[Qing^U^Qing]: Of course! Count me in! I would be okay with eating McDonalds and singing karaoke for your birthday but a private villa is way better! ( o˘◡˘o) ┌iii┐♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪
[KittyMiao]: I will come as well! It sounds fun. And it seems I can get new ideas for a manhua.(=^ェ^=)
[NingNing_Star]: Great! I will send you the info when things are set!（っ＾▿＾）
[NingNing_Star]: Hold on. Lin JinYan is calling me… I will catch up with you girls later!❤(ˆ‿ˆԅ)
"Lin JinYan. What's up?" Su Ning said as she picked his call. However, after a few moments, she heard nothing from the other line except for sounds of breathing. Su Ning's brows furrowed slightly and she began to feel ill at ease. She waited in silence for a minute before murmuring, "JinYan-Ge" When she heard some rustling sounds on the other end, Su Ning continued. "Is it something hard to talk about?" There was no response. "JinYan-Ge, if you are having a difficult time, should I sing you a song?" After a few seconds, Su Ning caught a soft hum from the other side. So she began to softly sing Rang Wo Hao Hao Kan Kan Ni (Let me take a good look at you) by Valen Hsu. The song had a sweet moving melody that coupled with Su Ning's pure and lovely voice was enough to reach Lin JinYan's heart.
When she finished the song, Su Ning leaned in closer to the phone receiver anxious to hear Lin JinYan speak. She felt something was wrong with his current emotional state but she didn't want to try and force him to talk. Finally, in a low hoarse voice Lin JinYan spoke, "Su Ning….NingNing." "JinYan-Ge, I'm here." Su Ning responded softly. "You don't have to explain if it's too hard right now. You can tell me when you are ready. Okay?" There was silence for a couple of beats before Lin JinYan answered, "Okay." Su Ning finally sighed in relief. She felt she would be able to end the call now the initial feeling of unease has dissipated. "JinYan-Ge, good night." On the other end, Lin JinYan felt a heavy rock was lifted from his heart. "Mm. NingNing, good night."
A short while later, Su Ning received a text from her friend.
[Rose_JinYan]: Thank you, NingNing.
[NingNing_Star]: ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ
'Ah, it seems like I've grown weak towards these kids. It will be sad when we have to separate in the future.' thought Su Ning.
