Capítulo 12: Underhanded
While Hannah and Tom were busy enjoying themselves in the lounge, there was something much worse happening in a facility near the city of New York.
In a pristine building, there were several scientists milling about. Testing formulas, checking results, discussing ideas... At the heart of it, a woman stood watching as a lab assistant came up to her. The assistant looked as though she was the bearer of bad news.
"Ma'am? Mr Stone... His tracker seems to be off."
The woman turned around, obviously agitated.
"What! How is that possible? That tracker was supposed to be undetectable by the subject."
The assistant showed the boss lady her tablet.
"That's just it. I believe we overestimated him."
"We certainly did. How is the second serum coming along? Is it ready?"
The assistant thought for a second before responding.
"The serum shows promise but there are a few kinks in it. However he's already got the first serum in his system so..."
She trailed off as her boss stood up and looked out of the office window. The woman turned and responded coldly, "He's fine. That serum is such a beautiful design he can withstand anything. We need him back for phase two."
"Yes ma'am. I'm sure he'll come back to us."
With that, the assistant left the room. The boss lady stood by the window contemplating.
"That serum works wonders. I must thank Hannah when I see her. I wanna show her my improved version. Show her that two can play this game."
She smirked as she reviewed Tom's profile then turned to leave her office, ready to turn the heat up on her battlefield.
