He had been told a lot of things, but here he was a century, almost a second century into his loneliness. All he had kept hearing was that time would be okay. The girl who had promised to be his forever had deserted him and there was nothing they could have done.

It was a test of time, that is what they told him the first time. They told him time would tell if they were meant to be together. Maybe they weren't meant to be together. But almost two hundred years later, somehow, he was still hopeful.

Still in his twenty-six-year-old body, he looked at the walls of the palace room he had dwelt in. Through the years he had learned to cope, but there was nothing that made sense about his way of coping.

He would wake up, walk around Alexei, laugh with the kids and fight with the warriors as he waited for the time they had all said would be perfect.
