Capítulo 4: Proposition and Threat
"I do apologize Sir. I didn't see you around so I assumed that she was on her own." Walter gave a slight bow to the taller, younger man who had appeared next to Juliet. She eyed him suspiciously as he continued speaking with the other.
"It's quite alright. I was busy for a moment and she wandered off. Is my room setup?" He asked, putting his hand on the small of Juliet's back to give her a slight shove forward towards the door.
"As always. Third on the right." The other replied as Richard opened the door.
"Thank you." was reply as they he pulled Juliet through the door ahead.
Once on the other side, she thought he would let her go instead however, he did the exact opposite. Richard grabbed her right wrist and pulled her towards the third door on the right.
By the time her brain processed what was going on, the man already had the door open and pushed her firmly in before shutting and locking it.
"What's the idea?" Juliet snapped after putting some space between.
"I could ask you the same." He replied, moving towards a small table in the middle of the room where a bottle of red wine and two glasses were sitting. "Sit down and talk." he ordered, motioning to a chair at the table that was closest to Juliet's side as he began pouring the wine.
"This is kidnapping!" she exclaimed looking at the room for any opportunity to escape. The room was pretty barren except for table, a standing lamp, and a desk sitting in the back right corner. There was a door on the other side of the room, but she assumed it was probably locked.
"The door is locked yes, but considering you didn't resist and we haven't left the building, I wouldn't call this kidnapping." He argued as he took a sit motioning for her to do the same. She shook her head and refused to budge.
"And what if I called for help using that button?" Juliet questioned pointing to a button that was on the wall right inside the door. She kept her defensive behavior up as she internally weighed her options.
Richard offered her a slight shrug in response, not moving from his seat to make any attempt to stop her.
"You could if you wanted to, but because you're with me no one would come or take your pleas seriously." his reply was spoken in a very level tone as though there was nothing out of ordinary with her question or wrong with his reply. Taking a sip from his glass of wine he looked back up at her as she still stood in the same place looking rather struck by his response. It was becoming more evident to him that the woman in front of him really didn't know where she was snooping around at.
"Isn't that kind of fucked up?" She finally exclaimed "So what the big secret is that back here you can get away with anything you want for the right price and everyone will turn a blind eye?" Richard's neutral expression changed to a light smirk in response to her reply.
"That certainly is one way of putting it." He paused just enough in his response to make the girl noticeably uncomfortable and take a small step back. "But you've got the wrong assumption running through your head because you've poked around in a place you know nothing about."
"And what's that supposed to mean?" Juliet inquired, taking another step back.
"It means you have no idea what you have stepped into and you're assuming the worst possible scenarios simply because a man you don't know lead you into a closed room that you no way of getting of and no idea what I may want from you." He explained smoothly as he kept his eyes still on here as he stood up. "If you did know anything, you'd already know I wasn't going to physically touch or hurt you. I simply brought you here to avoid suspicion for you and to be able to interrogate you myself."
"Interrogate a innocent young woman at a club she's never been to before? That doesn't sound much better." Juliet retorted.
"Hm... innocent young woman you say? Why not a young woman undercover who's trying too hard to blend in that she's making it obvious she doesn't belong here?" Richard tilted his as he took a step towards.
His words caused her to freeze as she had no idea how he guessed that much.
"I don't have much time so be quick about explaining what you're looking for or I'll call Walter and you can end up getting kicked out for this and never be able to step foot in here again. As for your spoken question, I'm used to dealing with people on a different level of intimacy that requires me to notice small changes, inconsistencies, differences, and other things most would ignore."
Juliet didn't know how to reply to the man in front of her because she couldn't discern if he was trustable if the room was bugged.
"How about we leave it with you being right and drop it from there. You can get back to your busy life and I'll go about my business." Juliet offered to the man.
"No" was the flat reply she got in response to the man now standing not to far in front of her.
"I expect a proper answer to my question. I can tell you don't want to talk about it here so I'll give you a proposal you would be wise to say yes to as I also expect something in return if I decide to keep quiet about this matter once you explain yourself. Nothing of the sexual nature of course." Richard assured as he stared the girl.
"I'm just supposed to agree without any context."
"Yes, or risk getting kicked out. It's entirely up to you though, but I'm sure you'd much prefer my proposal to risking your job." Juliet bit her bottom lip in frustration because the man wasn't wrong, but she still hated the fact that she found herself in this position.
"... Alright, but I'll report you if you're lying about anything." She finally conceded.
"I am a man of my word girl. I'm sure you can handle a dinner with me while we discuss business. Lets say two nights from now since I'll be busy after this. And if you don't show up. I'll be certain to let your secret leak the following morning."
