Why would Destrian send her a maid? Marlena wondered.

The woman was saying one thing but using the spider to tell her another, which meant her words were supposed to cover up for the truth in case someone was listening in on their conversation.

Despite wearing commoners' clothes, the woman was graceful and poised, much like a lady from an aristocratic family. This was no maid. She was probably someone Destrian was sending to protect her.

Did he know about the assassination attempt?

She couldn't dismiss the possibility considering the incident happened so close to Itrusia. It was thoughtful of him to send over someone to protect her, but she couldn't accept it.

"Thank you for thinking about me, but I do not need a maid." She said.

The woman's first reaction was to glance at the spider, wondering if it was able to communicate their purpose to Marlena.
